Villain is loose and passive.
How terrible is this?

[/ QUOTE ]betting here is good sometimes but in general people aren't folding on this board because it hit most of everything anybody would call with ever.

We have an incredibly strong drawing hand that will be totally transparent when we hit and "wake up". I like the flop bet for FE, to build pot, to disguise. (edit - ...and to buy a free river card)

This is my normal thinking in these type of situations, and I usually bet.
However, I am experimenting with being more selective with my cbets, and sometimes checking in HU pots with lots of different hands vs some opponents.

I checked here because
...there is a good chance I will get called, so my FE is lower than normal
...I can avoid being cr off my decent draw
...with four to a straight my hand will be transparent no matter what I do

[/ QUOTE ] Since he is passive FE is lower than normal but not zero. Along the same line, the risk of a c/r is lower than normal and more likely he will slowplay his big hand on the turn too to give you a free card. If you turn a straight you can check or bet weakly giving you a chance to look scared of the straight and inducing a bluff or at least still getting a river bet called.

I'll forego a cbet against passives more often but I think the reasons to bet on this flop are just too compelling for little if any gain.

How is the straight transparent? It would be blatantly obvious with 4 connected cards on the table.

transparent = blatantly obvious

There's your vocab lesson for the day.

Jouster,
" Since he is passive FE is lower than normal but not zero." This bet is not going to be a positive one in the long run.

I like it.

I would bet here if it was likely he would fold to a cbet [obv not likely].

But more importantly I would only bet the flop if he'll check the turn and we see both cards. This is only worth doing if he'll bet bet the turn and river when we check the flop or do some ghey overbetness.

But vs these type of villans I check more often, as when I totally miss the flop I want some slim drawing ability/don't want to lose a cbet unnecessarily.

Flop is also pretty drawy/connected so I doubt he'll fold any slim piece of it anyway.

I'd bet. If he has only a small piece of the flop you have 14 outs.

I bet because villains not dumb enough to pay you off when your draw hits because its so obvious. This is a good spot to semibluff.
