I'm playing in a home game tonight, and the host is raving about playing on Poker Academy.

"Do you play for money online?" I ask.

"No," he replies. "It's illegal."

"No, it's not."

His friend pipes up. "I heard you can't sign up anymore. I think you're grandfathered in if you already had an account."

"No, no," I say. "You can sign up. The only set-back is that getting your money out can be a bit dicey-"

"I've heard," the second guy says, "people are selling their accounts to people who want to play."

I told them that I've never heard of this, and maybe he's thinking about swapping money between sites.

At any rate, these are two people who play 2-3 times per week, and one of them plays constantly on the Poker Academy, who have been kept away because of what they think they know about the 'poker ban.'

Just shows how important it is to get correct info out there to prospective players.

Two fish at my weekly home game thought it was completely impossible to play online poker anymore after neteller went down.

If you want to know how badly misinformed folks are, just casually strike up a conversation while playing live at a casino.

Very true. I deal bar tournaments around Denver. Every night I deal, online poker comes up (usually discussion with my buddy about a particular hand) and one or two players at the table are shocked to find out you can still play online. I then have to explain the UIGEA and what it attempts to do (stop deposit from american financial institutions to online gaming sites) then I have to give a full explanation on how they can still open online poker accounts and fund those accounts (western union, wire transfer, paper check, e wallet, visa gift cards etc......)Very interesting observation! I really dont agree with drawing is a bit dicey. Most sites you can wire transfer which takes 4-5 business days (have done it several times with different sites and never had a problem)or have a check sent, only set back here is that it takes 4-5 weeks. Withdrawing with e-wallet your taking a risk (example -Neteller). But its a small risk. I wouldn't leave funds in a e-wallet, put it in the bank or online. What you need to worry about is the ewallet shutting down at the exact time you made a withdraw.

Yah, this is why if the US government ever regulated online poker or even if they officially came out and declared a carve out for online poker we would experience a second golden age with games close to those of Party's easiest days.

When the press and the PPA continue to promulgate statements that online poker is illegal, what else can we expect?
