I was trying to b/3b. Guy with 44 is very aggressive and the other player was a donklag who would bet/raise at weakness often.

I sincerely hope your joking. Not about the folding, but advocating that it was the correct way you played the hand. If you seriously put him on exactly 4d, well yeah that's prolly why you're not that good. You lucked out in this 1 situation in that you were correct, but you would miss a lot of value in almost any other situation.

If you are this good of a hand reader, you should be playing a lot higher than .5/1.

Because BB is terrible, I have position on him, he pays off very lightly. I want to play as many +ev hands as possible against him. I figure limping is better than raising there because he rarely folds the blind and he's not gonna let me showdown unimproved.

Did you notice that he called after a shove AND a call with just a set on the turn there?

I've played probably 700 hands with this particular villain and have a super solid read on him. He is very tight and aggressive, he won't coldcall with anything but pairs. He'll reraise big suited broadway cards from time to time but won't just cold-call them (against a player like me anyway).

A/images/graemlins/diamond.gif is out there, I have K/images/graemlins/diamond.gif and J/images/graemlins/diamond.gif. He would reraise QQ/images/graemlins/diamond.gif obviously, and and probably TT/images/graemlins/diamond.gif 99/images/graemlins/diamond.gif and 88/images/graemlins/diamond.gifas well.

So his range is basically 77:diamond and lower. The guy is straightforward and rarely bluffs. If I raise, will he call with 77/images/graemlins/diamond.gif? No.

There's an example in TOP where sklansky talks about a raise only having value if worse hands will call. This is one of those situations. He's simply not going to call a shove with a worse hand here for two reasons:

1. He's not an idiot
2. He essentially CAN'T have a decent diamond!

Against an unknown player or a donk, river is obviously a lead/shove.

But thanks for telling me I'm no good at poker. Grease fire, etc....

SC,
The fact that he will protect his blinds so wide makes raising really +EV. The fact he can't fold a set there means he is in a group of 99% of poker players.

If he rarely folds his blind, explain again why you decided to open-limp on the button with AA. /images/graemlins/confused.gif

If he's that bad open limping ATC is fine, and of course raising w/ a WIDE range of hands (any suited ace included).
