Just got a hotline call from the Hardrock. Can anybody else confirm?

Supposedly dealers are in training for BJ. Also, the Hardrock (Seminole Tribe) is negotiating for oceanfront property in Fort Lauderdale to build another Hotel/Casino.

The move is being made to give the taxpayers some property tax relief. I can't wait for my January vacation, Florida has the world's worst poker players.

Can you define hotline call, give number...or quote it?
Also, can you define "normal" stakes poker?

Thanks

This is great news.

Texas
West Virginia?
Florida

I can only hope these serve as a model, and the cramped limits we're forced to play in Colorado are changed.

I look forward to details.

In a previous thread it was pretty much decided that Florida was adding blackjack but not upping the stakes in poker.

I wish you people would stop getting my hopes up with these Florida poker threads. Until it is 100% confirmed that the stakes have been raised and/or NL has been allowed, stop toying with my emotions.

This thread is completely bogus. Nothing here.

There is a Florida Senate committee that is drafting a bill that would allow blackjack. That's a long way from saying Florida is adding blackjack.

It is a world famous fat guy I know. He does business with the Hardrock and he says he witnessed actual humans being trained in black jack dealing. I have no reason to doubt him, since I am his poker tutor. He also buys percentages of me in tourneys.

My definition of normal stakes is 10/20, 20/40, etc.

Thanks

He said that poker must be legalized since the state of Florida is under financial pressure. At this point the state sees poker as a method to alleviate some of the tax burden of homeowners. He also said that the racetracks will be getting poker, and if that happens, the Indian casinos are automatically allowed to operate in this manner. This makes a lot of sense to me.

However, the guy I know is a businessman, and not a legislator, so he doesn't control the lawmaking process or the authority to make any of this happen.

Go FL go,,, FL gator can win now the whole state of FL can win b/c of this. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

It is a fact for me. My man was given a tour of the dealer training, and gave me a call after that with the exciting news. Like I say, he is a businessman and not a legislator, but management at the Hardrock in Hollywood is anticipating this. If they anticipate it that's all I can communicate. I am not the f#%king governor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What this is talking about are those craptastic machines like they now have in the Seminole casinos, a step down from the Class 3 slots that have recently made an appearance.

Not sure how you interpreted poker and bj out of this.

Truthiness24

Seminole "could" raise the stakes and add blackjack without a change in law by the FL legislature.

The laws on this subject are unclear to me, but I know that it is possible and has to do with the state having a deadline to negotiate with the tribe ... the state ignored the deadline, to my knowledge, and now the tribe is working with BIA to expand gaming, including blackjack and poker.

So, while the OP might be full of baloney, don't go troll on him either. I'm going to maintain hope and write some letters.

Senate Democratic leader Steve Geller, of Cooper City, said the video lottery machines mean "vast amounts of statewide revenues," estimated at $900 million to $2 billion by 2010. It would be earmarked for education.

"It's a boatload of money," said Geller, who sponsored the bill. "The state needs it right now."

As much as I hate to admit that FLafishy is correct, BUT, unfortunately he/she is correct on this point. I was playing in a tournament at the Hoolywood (Mardi Gras) greyhound track the other night and the dealer actually said that he couldn't wait for them to add the "dice games" and that they were actually in the process of building the tables up on the third floor. The guy was a total twit and I stiffed him because he was also giving us such bad service as well.

OK. Hows this? The nephew of a guy who lives next door to a girl I work with says Donald Trump is going to build a big honking casino on Hollywood Beach and they're going to let him have blackjack and high-stakes poker and anything he wants. I can't wait.

Optimistic enough for you?

I agree!!!!

Besides, Flafishy is wholly misinformed. For example, in the previous thread he made a FACTUAL statement that poker is totally regulated by a gaming commission in the State of Florida, that the FL State legislature is totally powerless to regulate poker in FL, AND that it would take a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT to get higher stakes poker in FL.

I am an attorney who has practiced extensively in this area of the law and I just laughed at how stupid these statements were.

FL's poker laws can be found in the Florida Statutes dealing with crimes best known as the FL penal code which makes gambling a crime, then it sets forth certain exceptions for poker.

To come forth with such powerful yet totally misinformed statements to the contrary only fuels the existing misconceptions making it harder for informed citizens to participate in these debates with their legislators.

Please, if you are going to say something factual, CHECK IT OUT first so that you do not cause more harm than good.

STATEMENT OF SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES CONTAINED IN
COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR
Senate Bill 752

"It changes the hours of operation from between 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 A.M. and allows local government to extend the hours by majority vote.

It changes the maximum bet from $2 to $10."

Anyone think this has any chance of passing?

Russ M.
04-21-2007, 06:41 PM
Dunno the chances, but this is very nice to actually see the verbage in the bill specifically designate an increase in stakes in poker. This would be a huge leap and IMO would probably have a better chance of passing than if they tried to include some kind of low stakes NL.

Truthiness24
04-21-2007, 07:00 PM
This is for real. No idea on if it can pass, but it looks like powerful people are backing it.

The state is looking for alternative tax revenue streams. This is viable and the $2 games we have put a foot in the door. There really aren't any moral objections aside from what's already out there.

I don't agree about pushing low stakes NL -- non-card players can't wrap their head around that concept -- it sounds too risky to them. Let's try to get this in and we'll see what we can do next year.

FL people, please flood your reps with letters between now and Monday. Non FL people make calls and say you'd be more likely to come to FL as a visitor.

I know were usually all talk and no action here, but this is not a time for the trolls -- we actually can accomplish something useful by giving the system a gentle nudge in the direction it's already going.

If this passes, seek me out and I'll get some folks to help with the CA initiative or anything else that helps poker.

Truthiness24
04-21-2007, 07:50 PM
I was checking out the FL House bill that is the companion. It seems to raise the stakes to $5 instead of $10 but allow for $100NL. It seems that this one will pass through too and then they'll work out the differences in committee, unless the session expires on them. But we think that they are pushing it pretty hard.

Please make some calls. I'll get numbers if anyone is interested.

God i hope this passes. I learned limit and was starting to regret not learning NL. This would be great. Any word on max rake?

Truthiness24
04-22-2007, 09:31 AM
It doesn't change in the bill. It was already high to begin with.

The bill also authorizes jackpots, so expect a $5+1 rake.

It helps the tracks because they'll get a $5 rake almost every hand.

The Bill also allows RE-BUY Tournaments which they cannot currently offer so the $100.00 buy in tournaments can become even bigger and better especially if the cardrooms structure it to allow 30 minute levels like at Seminole Hollywood's Wednesday night $65.00 buy in $20.00 re-buy tournament which offers a great return on your money.
