This is a hand from the brew (thanks thac).

Stack Sizes
SB: 120BBs
BB: 20BBs
UTG: 396BBs
MP: 139BBs
CO: 103BBs
Hero (BTN): 99.5BBs

Preflop: 8/images/graemlins/spade.gif 8/images/graemlins/diamond.gif (1.5BBs, 6 Players)
UTG raises to 3.5BBs, 2 folds, Hero calls 3.5BBs, 2 folds

Flop: 6/images/graemlins/heart.gif T/images/graemlins/diamond.gif T/images/graemlins/club.gif (8.5BBs, 2 Players)
UTG bets 6BBs, Hero ???

Would you call, raise, or fold? What are you expecting to get out of the hand? Would you make the same move if UTG has 100BBs instead of ~400BBs?

If I called preflop then I am playing for set value, and folding the flop.

some reads would be nice

i'm calling with the intention of betting when checked to on the turn. i would be more inclined to raise if it was 3-handed on the flop

in this case i would treat a 400bb stack the same as a 100bb stack

Effective stacks are 100 BBs, so UTG having 400 BBs means nothing unless we saw how he obtained that stack. As played, HU this looks like a pretty standard c-bet from the PFR, no reason to think our 88 is beat yet. I call here and plan to bet the turn if checked to. If he fires the turn again, I lay this down as long as the bet is anything considerable.

I'd probably raise. Otherwise I'd have to continue calling without knowing where I stand. Or fold without knowing where I stand... But it depends on the villain. Does he c-bet often. If so I might just call and bet if he checks turn.

I would raise this turn. Very dry board, no reason to think you are behind here.

raising at any point without an 8 on the board is terrible poker

I'm not arguing this point. Just want to discuss it a bit.

I think its reasonable to assume that the villain is going to cbet this flop regardless of what overcards he holds. So then its probably 50/50 that you are ahead at this point.

So...
#1 Would raising here not give you the chance to end the hand while you're ahead?

#2 If you call and a face hits the turn you most certainly will have to fold if he leads. If you call and an under hits what are you going to do?
