I called because of a)pot odds b)couldn't work out what hand the player was doing this with. is this a fold or a call? comments on other streets appreciated, but try to avoid 'fold preflop' and then not engaging in the rest of the hand, thanks.

Yes I think you are good here often enough to make the call. I would expect to see hands like KQcc, JQcc which you beat. Hard to put him on a 6 unless it's something like Kc6c or something weird like that.
