Villian was unknown. Should I play it differently if villian is a tag? In general how do you handle hands like this, is donking ok or check call turn?

i usually either lead out or check raise the flop. if he calls or raises i get suspicious and slam on the brakes.

Your line is pretty transparent. Whenever I see a decent but not great player take this line I'm raising with air on the turn all the time. The turn donkbet just screams 'is my hand good?' to which I say 'no.'

Lead or c/r flop is OK, maybe you check turn as played and see what he does.
