this post isnt a question about whether or not i should fold, fold being the odvious answer. This is a very commom situation for me- raise pf, cont. bet 3 into a 4$ pot, get called, check check on turn, then villan will bet 4 into pot of 10. Is there any way to avoid losing these types of hands or do they play themselves?

there is nowt wrong with calling there, but its better if there are more draws that have had a chance to miss.

Calling with ace high shouldnt be routine here, I would want to know villain a little bit better first.

Is he a tight player pre- and postflop? Then he is more likely to have a pocket pair here than overcards. (dont like his line though...)

Is he a loose player that will play any broadway, and float the flop hoping to spike? Then you might consider calling the river.

Against an unknown you should just fold and forget about it.

i folded but my only concern in this hand is, do hands like this play themselves or is there a way to aviod losing these types of hands after a failed cont bet? does anyone recommend firing again on the turn or raising the river?

This is standard. Villain probably has some random pair and might fold if you raise but it isn't worth it to try and bluff an unknown.

The line you took is the standard line I would take against an unknwon.
To deviate from the standard, I would need to know my opponents tendencies a lot better.
