There is this thing about taking this line. Villains play back at you when you do it. I'll give an example hand, which I am sure a lot of players will find familliar.

Big blind is $0.1, 6 players

Hero: $10
CO: $10

Preflop: Hero is UTG with A/images/graemlins/diamond.gifK/images/graemlins/diamond.gif
Hero raises to $0.4, MP folds, CO calls $0.4, 3 folds.

Flop: 7/images/graemlins/spade.gif3/images/graemlins/spade.gifJ/images/graemlins/diamond.gif ($0.95, 2 players)
Hero bets $0.9, CO calls $0.9

Turn: Q/images/graemlins/heart.gif ($2.75, 2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $2, Hero folds.

This happens all the time, right? We raise preflop, and get called by someone who has position on us. We whiff the flop, and get called on the continuation bet. Now most of the time, we have to check the turn. The villain in position will now take down the pot A LOT. Even the times he doesn't have anything at all, but called the flop just because he is a station.

Lately I have experimented a bit with this. When I hit the flop good, I c-bet like always (obv), but on the turn I check. This makes it look like one of those hands where I missed the flop and has given up. On several occations villains has taken stabs with air or third pair, thinking they are gonna play back at my c-bets.

It probably shouldn't be done too much on drawy boards. Better on dry boards like in the OP hand. And also, if the villain is just a plain, dumb calling station, then just value bet again probably.

FWIW, this is not my default line in hands like these. But definitley something I have been thinking about lately.

So I just wanted to hear some thoughts on this. Discuss!

both moves are pretty standard. your line is refered to as the "stack-a-donk" line. both work well in that spot depending on the villian. calling station = value bet, TAG/LAG = c/r.

Oh I totally agree.. I switch up my lines.. depending on the board and player obviously. This hand you posted here was like my whole day today.. whiffing with AK and AQ lol. This tilts me way more than losing any pot when I have to keep folding to the donkey on my left who never lays down a hand. I've been doing a little more double barreling though. It has been working pretty well against the people I can put on hands. Everyone likes to peel the flop with their pp if no A or K hits.
