I was going to post this in a previous book thread, but it really doesn't fit any of them. And everyone loves a good book thread, right? I know I do.

So I am travelling to Germany for work for a couple weeks and I figure between flights and sitting in my hotel room I'll have time to read two books. Below are the top books in my Amazon wish list, I am looking for recommendations and comments from anyone who has read any of them, and any other suggestions are also welcome.

I just read conspiracy of fools, and it was awesome, and hard to put down.

Cool, that's the kind of book I'm looking for. I actually think I may have read where you said that in the past, and I picked it up and started thumbing through it the other day, but ultimately decided not to pick it up yet. Perhaps I will order it now.

Some of those look pretty interesting. I need to start reading a LOT more than I currently do.

I've only got one book coming my way:

America Alone (http://www.amazon.com/America-Alone-End-World-Know/dp/0895260786/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-4558591-3823356?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1173719690&sr=8-1)

Terrible choice - Mark Steyn has been wrong about everything he's written in the past six years.

I read The Alchemist: A Fable About Following Your Dream before.
It is very metaphorical. It is really hard to describe for me actually, but it truly is a fable (as stupid as that sentence sounds).

when you first read the book its enjoyable. but after i read the explanation about what the different characters and events mean, i felt a bit ripped off to be honest.
nonetheless, you should read it and decide on your own accord.

(i am thinking of a good example to this book and the story of Exodus in the bible is a good example to me)

This is a pretty interesting book. I never finished it - I've been thinking about trying to pick it back up sometime soon - but I find the "multiple drafts" model of consciousness pretty compelling.

conspiracy of fools for sure. if you like, then definitely get his other stuff - the best investigative journalist of our time.

Conspiracy of fools vs. Smartest guys in the room? Anyone read both, and which do you prefer?

conspiracy of fools, but both are great. i think diablo liked smartest guys in the room better. it may be a case of whichever you read first you like more. i read cof first, and after reading sgitr i thought there were a few important things they left out or didn't cover extensively enough (and i didn't learn anything new).
