the flashing envelope thingee

for some reason it doesn't flash for me now when I get a new mail.

this has happened occasionally before.

I might catch a glimpse of it barely flash for a milli-second when I go to a new page.
Almost like I imagined it.
Then when I check 'my home' sure enough I have another message there.

Kind of weird.

Me too. I think it must be set to 'on' and when page loads, it gets turned 'off' or something like that.

I doubt it.
When the page loads, the code probably says:

If (UserHasNewMail==true)
show_the_flashing_mail_image()

In other words, it's just an animated gif that is there or not there. It can't be turned on or off after the page loads.

Could it be a browser issue?

Are you having this problem in IE or Firefox?

To update:
I used to get the flashing-envelope thing all the time when I had a message.


For the past week (or more) it NEVER flashes at all even when I have a waiting message.
Except for that brief milli-second thing that I sometimes catch a glimpse of.

I just got another message today and now it actually IS flashing.
First time I've had that in several messages the past few days.

It goes from on to off (when I have a message) semi-randomly for me.

Not many others (if any) with this issue i guess.
Otherwise I would think they would want to look into it.

On a serious note...

As a mod, I guess you do get a lot of PM's. And some should be read ASAP.

Do you get an e-mail notice of PM's? Can you set your e-mail notification so you're alerted? Maybe even set up an e-mail account just for PM notifications. It won't be as quick as on-site, but at least it would be reliable.
