For a while now uNL has been served by a FAQ that's named "MicroNL Temporary FAQ"

It needs an update and this is where you guys come in.

I plan on updating the FAQ over the next week or so, so I'm looking for suggestions of answers it doesn't already contain that you think need to be in it.

You can read the present FAQ here (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=7385526&an=0&page=47#Pos t7385526) .

Whats missing - and what basic questions does it need to answer?

FAQ suggestion thread is now open - and will remain open for several days.

There's something about min-raising pre-flop in there that could use some expansion since it comes up every now and then:

I always read that a pre-flop raise should be 4BB+1BB for every limper. Where does this rule come from? Why can't I just push the raise button?

When you raise pre-flop you don't want to give your opponents good odds to call you. 4BB+1 is a good compromise that makes it a mistake for many holdings to call while at the same time doesn't put too much of your money at risk should you run into a better hand.

The "slang and abbreviations" section needs an upgrade/broadening. There are loads of words/slang/abbs that I see used very often here which are not in the FAQ (I know because being pretty new to the forum I need to look for explainations of poker-specific language every now and then).

Eg. things like "float", IP, OOP, UI, FPT, FWIW (not only poker-specific, but also generally forums-specific, but still) and other.

Thanks for the initiative.

"OH GOD WHY DO I RUN SO BAD I HATE POKER HOW DO YOU WIN AT POKER UGH IM NEVER GOING TO HAVE A BR OF MORE THAN $X AHH I HATE LIFE" type things need to be addressed imo.

common questions that should be answered/ppl told not to ask.

Here's some examples of non-great threads:

Is x site better than y site for playing poker? (honestly most of them are pretty similar expect pokerroom, which is basically like playing live poker. Their software is [censored] annoying though.)

TAG versus LAG style, which should I learn? (fundamentally bad, you should learn TAG first obv.)

A lot of non-hand based threads by new posters usually suck. So as a general rule new posters should probably try them out in the microbrew before making them their own topic. A lot of the time their just asking generic stuff thats too obvious to deserve a big discussion for regular players....

One question I've seen a lot:
Whats the difference between 10NL and 25NL, or 5NL and 10NL. 25NL and 50NL has probably been asked, but I don't seem to be a winner at 50NL yet (probably tilt/play like crazy lag reasons).

I posted a long explanation if you want it, you could also just search my name, shouldn't be hard to find (its old though, I reposted links a little while ago)...Should probably add something about the diff between 25NL and 50NL. Fimbul does cover that tho (def. does a better job than me, but his post is kinda outdated...).

Put something in there about raising/betting for information. Or seeing where your at, whatever. Also something about waiting for the turn to raise (this is a limit concept).

Bankroll came up recently. Obviously 20 buy ins is the answer. edit: OK I saw its in there, cool. I read the FAQ again lol...

add float to abbreviations. Seems like not a ton of ppl know what that means.

Another is how should I move from limit x to limit y. I think the answer is slowly add tables of limit y till your playing limit y exclusively. Start adding the tables one by one once you hit 20 buy ins for that level (slightly more if you like to play it safe). Normally what happens is your lower tables pay for your higher while you adjust. Also, the lower tables your usually doing the same stuff as normal, so it prevents the "oh my god I have to do stuff totally diff. at this level" attitude.....

also answer the question "How do I get to the archives?". I want to know the answer.

How about something for protocol when you recognize a fellow 2+2 on the tables? People should recognize the "sup bro" greeting and shouldn't ask or state: "You 2+2?" or something else that advertises the site. This has happened to me twice in the past 2 weeks and I've barely been playing.

1. The PTBB/100 vs BB/100 question.

2. Where to post NC/LC thread in MicroBrew and stats questions too.

3. May be something about it's good etiquette to reply to a hand post or two before posting your own? This ensures threads get a decent no. replies e.t.c

If anyone wants to give me specific topics I should be able to dig up some relevant links to threads (as long as there not on archiveserver, Inoticed Skeme/AJ SSNL'S FAQ is now there I believe).

I've posted something similar in the feb Microbrew thread, but I think it's also useful for the FAQ. Feel free to correct anything.

How to upload a picture of your graph

1. Right-click on your Poker Grapher (https://sourceforge.net/projects/pokergrapher/) / Poker Patterns (http://83.149.84.143/~muse/pokerpatternsv17.zip) graph:

http://home.quicknet.nl/qn/prive/eim.imming/grapher.png http://home.quicknet.nl/qn/prive/eim.imming/patterns.png
2. Click "Save image"
3. Save in PNG or GIF format.
4. Upload to a webhost. (Imageshack (http://www.imageshack.us/), xs.to (http://xs.to/) or your providers webspace)
5. Copy the forum thumbnail link:

http://home.quicknet.nl/qn/prive/eim.imming/xsto_forum_thumb.png

and paste it. You can also use the direct link if your image isn't too large (less than 600 px, don't break the thread):

direct link here

If you're using your providers webspace:

Definitely something about folding KK preflop (as in not doing it).

I made a post about it here - http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=microplnl&Number=9047793

which might serve as a good starting point.

What does FWIW mean?

Definition of "nit" in lingo... it took me a while to figure out that wasn't another acronym.

As for the recognizing a fellow 2p2'er... I've been guilty of mentioning it before to establish it, but then again I play on WPX where everybody recognizes everybody anyway. I saw a "Wolfram" on FTP and I was subtle about it... like, "Wolfram, do you post on a popular poker message board?" Heheh....

And I agree with the nit thing -- it took me forever to find that out because people use it in so many different contexts

What does 3bet light mean?

Is a 3bet the 3rd bet of RR'ing or 3 times the previous bet?

The fact that AF is calculated PF and how to find it in PT (click more detail, check post flop AF, etc)

Which program do I use for graphs?

How do I make my graph a positive slope instead of a negative one? j/k

Why can't I get stats on observed tables in PAHUD on Stars? (its not allowed)

What do I do when I run into a maniac?

What does LOL mean? j/k

What does j/k mean? I'm serious.

good suggestions so far /images/graemlins/smile.gif - keep them coming.

Please note that it is impossible to "please all of the people all of the time" - so some of the suggestions might not make it

as far as the 'Fight Club' mentality thing re: 2p2.

I don't care - it has little to do with uNL anyway and what exactly is wrong with "advertising" this website?? it's not a small website anymore.

I will add a section on "Table Etiquette" tho and "sup bro".

Bear in mind that even if bad players read this stuff they won't necessarily get to be good players simply by reading - and that players that do put the work in and get better deserve to - who cares how they came across 2p2?

As I have to play poker sometime and fit in a real life the new FAQ timetable is ~mid March ish.

Even after this thread is closed you can PM suggestions/comments about any part of uNL anytime to any of the mods.

A FAQ item that would give newbies a set of standards/evaluation process for deciding whether or not their item is worth it's own post, or whether or not it should be put in the microbrew.

An item explaining that the Well is invite only, and how people come to be chosen for invitation. I didn't know this until I saw someone comment on Sir Win-A-Lot's well post.

Whether or not it's okay to just start a Microhappy Weekend thread, and if so the criteria for being the one to start it. (I love that thread, and miss it on weekends that it is not present).

A how-to article on how to activate the super-secret "see your opponents hole cards" button that lets the donkeys call everytime I semi-bluff raise SCs and Axs from LP, but all the limpers in what would be a family pot fold when I raise my big pairs. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

ye forgot that one 2mb - tks for that 1 earlier /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I saw this thread in beginners, (yes I still go there occasionally the nOOb that I am)

Might be worth adding( wasn't sure because of the RB stuff), You can decide in the mod lounge with emC, AJ and 42it over cigars and brandy...

Triggerle made a nice guide on making videos in microbrew

I suck with PC's so I have no idea what you just said...

Camtasia is pretty straightforward so I'm not going to explain. Just make sure you produce your video as a .avi in the end.

Get the xvid codec from http://www.xvid.org/

Install xvid codec.

Get virtualdub from http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/

Start Virtual Dub and open the video file you got out of camtasia.

In the Audio menu check that "source audio" and "direct stream copy" are checked.
http://mywebpage.netscape.com/TachPaule/vd1.jpg

In the video menu select "compression"
http://mywebpage.netscape.com/TachPaule/vd2.jpg

In the following pop-up select "XVID" and press "configure".
http://mywebpage.netscape.com/TachPaule/vd3.jpg

Fill in the 3 top fields as indicated by the screenshot.
http://mywebpage.netscape.com/TachPaule/vd4.jpg

Save your compressed video. This could take a few minutes, depending on your computer speed.

If the video comes out too blurry try again with a higher bitrate.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned or not but playing low pocket pairs to raises in and out of position would be nice. I'm aware of the 5/10 rule but was reading an updated version in SSNL and not sure where to draw the line especially out of position. This situation occurs constantly and I believe I'm misapplying the rule sometimes.

Don't know if this is mentioned anywhere but.. does uNL have an IRC channel?

IRC channel would be great.

How about a guide for good spots to checkraise? I don't CR much because i feel at uNL you can just valuebet big hands on all streets. Am I missing out?

can U send the link: I'm aware of the 5/10 rule but was reading an updated version in SSNL

I usually complete or check the blinds with 2 or more limpers... in UTG i'm always raising with 22+ but depends how the table is playing, if verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryy loose I fold sometimes...
