After his call on the turn I would be concerned. I probably check the river hoping he checks behind me. He could have hit his straight on the turn or have a boat. I just don't see him calling your turn raise without something very strong.

It would definitely help to know the stats on your opponent. Also would help to know what your table thinks of you. If you are playing LAGGY then i see no problems. That turn call is fishy though, but if you dont push that river he does and you have to make a decision.

his stats: 51/2/0.25 over 39 hands (maybe less hands when we played this)

my stats:20/16/3.5

Turn: ($1.60) T (2 players)
Hero bets $1.5, MP raises to $3, Hero raises to $11.75, MP calls $8.75.

I probably would've just called his raise instead of reraising him.

River: ($25.10) Q (2 players)
Hero bets $15.35 (All-In), MP calls $15.35.

Then I would've checked the river to see what he did.

I think his turn min-raise would freeze me up. Yeah, it could be a hand like T9, I guess, but 97 just got there, and if Villain also has trips, his kicker might play (unlike yours).

The thing is, Villain's line (call flop, pop turn) is very consistent with the way a passive player plays a big hand, either after he flopped it and slowplayed or after he chased and caught.

Yes, I think it's important that next time I see a passive player raise, I become more cautious

Would it be wrong to just call his minraise and then make like a half pot bet on a safe river?

It sounds wimpy, I know, but I think I prefer just checking to him on the river and letting him choose the price.

If he bets really big, we don't have to call it, and if he bets small, well, sometimes it'll be a hand like T9 and sometimes it'll be a monster he bet small with because he was scared we wouldn't call anything bigger.

Unfortunately, when he has a hand like T9, we win a lot less with this strategy than we would have liked to with our trips. But I'm not crazy about my hand anymore versus Villain's range after his flop/turn line, and I don't want to invite Villain to raise again on the river (and if he does raise, even with just another min-raise, that raise will often be to an amount much larger than he would have bet on his own).

I mean, if he raises again, we don't really have any good options. We can fold knowing that sometimes we just donated extra dollars to a hand we would have chopped with, or we can call and then very frequently see a better hand at showdown.
