Explain why!

El Diablo

Cardo,

The contents of my hard drive. I've had this happen multiple times and always managed to get by just fine, though it has often been a pain in the ass to get things back in working order. But I have reasonable enough backups of everything to make do.

Anyway, I'm gonna give this a chance for a handful of responses. Hopefully people come up with some decent posts. Not sure if there's much of anyplace to go besides "losing digits sucks, hard drive crashes are blah but whatever," though.

dont really think this is much of an issue...i doubt a lot of people here have work that can't be backed up or retrieved from somewhere, especially given the demographic of people that will read this poll...can't really see many people giving up a toe in order to save some college essays and internet porn...

Who voted for losing a toe? I want to hear an explaination. I figure most people would have a back up of any vital info.

This question is pretty useless unless you are talking about losing ALL your stored data. It doesn't work if you can recover stuff. If I have to lose all my music and all my digital photos, that would suck. I might have to think about it then.

I don't. That's why I voted for the toe. And what's 'vital.' I've been copying data from one drive to another for a decade. I'd much rather just lose the toe.

I'm the second to vote for toe. It would be the biggest pain in my ass to recover all of the things that I want and I have installed so many little programs and addons that it would take a long time to get it back to my comfortable norm. Little toes aren't that important, plus I could go in on a deal with some nihilists to boot*.

Walter Sobchak: You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me.
The Dude: Yeah, but Walter...
Walter Sobchak: Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o'clock this afternoon... with nail polish. These [censored] amateurs...

*awesome pun intended

this is ridiculous. anyone who says toe has ocd and is the equivalent of a packrat. they have a total lack of confidence in themselves. stuff on your hardrive is the past. your toe is the future. ive walked away from many computers on many occassions and just started over. your toe is the result of milllions of years of evolution and vastly more important than anything kept outside your body.

Big toe, now we've got a real decision. Little toe was the most useless digit I could think of.

Well, your little toe is almost entirely superfluous and doesn't really represent the 'future' at all. Also, I am indeed something of a packrat, when it comes to information / media; I find it very hard to get rid of letters and the like. Also, I have yet to read a post of yours that doesn't further convince me of your imbecility.

Is there anyone out there with some kind of kinesiology background?

I'd vote hard disk anyway, without supporting data, but I have a vague recollection that losing a little toe messes up your balance in pretty much anything requiring walking, running, or jumping, so in the interests of being able to play bad golf without thousands of dollars spent on prosthetics and special shoes, I'll trust to frequent backing up of my digital photos.

I just lost a hard drive.

I lost nearly all my old MP3's, and tons of TV shows.

It sucks, but I got to take out my anger from losing the hard drive by shooting it.

If I lost a toe I wouldn't be able to shoot it, so I voted for losing the hard drive.

Oh yeah, in case you are wondering, hard drives apparently would make excellent body armor. None of the rounds went completely through the drive.

What the hell can someone possibly have on a hard drive that makes it more important than a toe?

I guess losing all my PT data would be the worst part of it, but songs and movies and software can be easily (well, somewhat anyway) recovered.

LOL.

You don't hunt me, you don't lord over me, nor are you of some nebulous class that does. Everything you say is like this - something flash-sounding that has no substance. You don't understand anything. You don't even understand that you don't understand anything. You're too busy self-aggrandizing.

Hard drive.. I've got nothing important on my hard drive that warrants losing a little toe over.. I don't back anything up cuz nothing is important enough to back up..

I'd lose my hard drive.

I'm pretty sure my wife would rather lose her toe, since she refuses to back up all our wedding and baby pictures, which only exist on her hard drive.

Hard Drive - There's stuff on there I'd be glad to be rid of. Not much that's irreplaceable.

People just over-save so horribly. All that stuff on your hard drive, you can live without it. If you can't, then you're an idiot for not getting it backed up.

I've been warring against my packrat nature for the past year. I've thrown away a lot of things I had saved for various reasons, some sentimental, some what I thought were practical. In all cases, despite the brief sorrow, I never thought twice about what I'd tossed.

diablo,

im really surprised you didnt insta lock this one. it did end up being mildy entertaining but i really dont see how any legitimately good discussin could come from the original post, especially when the question is soo not close.

you guys are pussies. Or you don't have anything worthwhile on your hard drive.

I had a doctor take off my little toe when I broke it back in college and it wasn't healing fast enough to get back on the tennis court. CHOP! Ahhhh...now the tennis shoe doesn't hurt...
