View Full Version : 50NL: AK OOP against overbet raise - am I a total Nit?

So the button is 16/0/Inf. after 18 hands. I got in one hand with him earlier, where he called my PFR, then made a sizeable checkraise on a 9 high flop, forcing me to fold.
MP is a loose passive fish.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool (http://poker-tools.flopturnriver.com/Hand-Converter.php) from FlopTurnRiver.com (http://www.flopturnriver.com) (Format: 2+2 Forums)

SB ($52.85)
Hero ($42.05)
UTG ($27.50)
MP ($11.70)
Button ($56.50)

Preflop: Hero is BB with K/images/graemlins/heart.gif, A/images/graemlins/club.gif.
1 fold, MP calls $0.50, Button raises to $3.5, Hero folds

Am I being a total nit here, folding AK to a button raise? Or is it legitimate not to want to get in a big pot OOP with just AKo against this guy's range? What would you do?

This is an instamuck for me with no read at all, this is his first raise at the table, he has position on you. If you repop him and he calls you're basically gonna have to fold to any aggresion on a non A / K board and if he puts you all in preflop you're gonna have to muck it as well.

You're risking something like 12$ to take his 3.5$, wait for another spot to take his money imo.

I'd prolly 3bet to $11-$14.

What do we do if villain:
-Shoves/4bets?
-Calls and we miss flop?

if villian shoves / 4 bets i'm probably folding as villians at these limits do not have a wide 4 bet range. Since we don't have any meaningful stats on villian I am c-betting almost any flop.

Note that just because we are folding to a 4-bet shove doesn't mean our 3-bet is wrong. Villians at these limits can have pretty wide raising ranges and AK has excellent equity against his range. You would also be surprised how often a flop c-bet in a RR'd pot will take it down.

Mkay, so if villain just calls we often fire a c-bet, even if there's no A or K?

I think you need to call the AI if villian shoves from an odds standpoint. I'll do some math and get back to you later on this.
