Many of you are probably too young to recall how many communities, plus their law-enforcement and media and official politicaldom, got behind this 80s/90s wave of hysteria, and the disaster it wrought to many innocent people thought false criminal charges. A few of them languish in jail to this day I think. A case study of how "experts", "common sense" and community consensus can all easily go astray, especially when the pitchforks come out. As Feynman used to say, "you're the easiest to fool" and we should all remember that every day before breakfast.
