What's a sweeper program?

I don't exactly know myself, but I always read using them to clear casino bonuses. I think it's a system that decides how much you should bet each hand. I'm interested in trying one out to see the results.

a sweeper is simply an increasing staking system when you win

For example

5,5,7,7,10,10,12,12,15,15 would be a sweeper system ... when you lose you drop down to 5. When you win you bet the next one in the sequence

then you'd rarely go to 15, since you'd have to win 5 in a row?

i thought the optimal amount is to bet exactly half of your balance? EV saved by increasing ROR and betting entire balance is less than the EV of allowing yourself a chance to split or double, but the EV of allowing the chance to resplit and redouble is trivial compared to EV saved from increasing ROR.

this is mostly intuition, and i dont have numbers to back it up.

Most people don't have the bankroll to be making such bets. Risk tolerance kelly betting etc. I'm sure BJ Sweeper however takes this into account.

Well, if you play 400 hands/hr, I imagine you'd be winning 5 in a row about every 5 minutes, so it all depends on how you define "often". Of course, you wouldn't be betting 15 anywhere near that often, since that sequence would only have you doing it after winning 8 in a row.

Seems like a pretty silly idea to me anyway, but what do I know...

yeh - with that sequence, 15 would be on your 9th bet, after 8 wins in a row.

However, you can "sweep" any numbers you wish,

some do 1,1,2,2,3,3

others do 10,10,20,20,40,40

etc. etc.

I think the idea is to "play up your wins" ... if you get a good run then you play with bigger stakes.

I don't do it myself - I tend to set my stakes according to my balance - hence I do increase in a good run and decrease in a bad run
