I travel down to AC about 3 times a year and generally play at the Taj and Trop. However the last couple of trips I've included Borgata. I cannot get over how dirty and cluttered the poker room is in the area where they play 10/20 HE at the Taj. Alot of the players have food delivered from outside and when they are through the paper dishes cups etc seem to end up on the floor and are just left there. ...That being said I'll be in AC next week and will be playing some 10/20 there..My wife plays the slots and gets free rooms at the Taj and Trop so that is where I play poker most of the time but try to drive over to Borgata for a little poker which is much nicer and cleaner...My opinion...In the last couple of years I've played in about 20 different casinos from Reno/Vegas to Foxwoods and Taj wins "dirtiest poker room" hands down..

Basically, you are full of s___! Given the THOUSANDS of people who patronize that room each month, the staff does an adequate job of keeping the Taj clean. Darn right...debris gathers from time to time, BECAUSE THE ACTION IS NON-STOP. If you prefer a spotless room with no action, you are off your rocker...AGAIN.

Additionally, you haven't been in the places you claim, because you'd know the dirtiest casinos are in Nevada. I don't have to identify them. People who have REALLY BEEN THERE KNOW WHERE THEY ARE.

Hollywood Park.

If there's a worse one I never want to see it. Proceed as if the 'Wet Floor' sign is displayed all the time. Don't wear sandals if you play there. Your feet will get wet, and not from water.

Do you actually keep accurate records of your slot play? I only ask because if everyone who said they were "up a little" on slots really was, there would be no casinos.

Truer words have never been uttered on 2+2.

It seems like easily more than half the slots-players out there say they are at least break-even to slightly-up over their lifetime of slot play.
It's amazing how all these people convince themselves that they aren't net-losers.

I know someone who "almost always wins" at slots. One of her friends vouches for her. OK.

One day I happen to be in AC and run into this woman, so I hang out by the slots for a bit and watch her in action. $100 bill goes in, plays for a little, hits a bit, loses more, and cashes out $65. Her statement, and she's dead serious: "Won $65, not bad." /images/graemlins/confused.gif

What's sad is that on election day, her vote counts just the same as mine... /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Agreed.

From what I gather, if she cashes nothing out, even though she really "broke even", she considers that a "loss". In all honesty, once I saw this "system", I stopped trying to logically assess anything that she says or does.

I remember one time I was fiddling around with a nickel video slot with a max of 5 coins. I hit something or other that returned 3 of my 5 nickels, and a graphic came up on the screen that said "Winner!". the casino wouldn't lie to me, would they? I must have been a winner. Also, on video poker machines when I catch the big pair and it returns my money, it doesn't say "Push!", it says "Winner"! I've even had blackjack dealers tell me that a push is as good as a win. So basicly, the money you bet is an entertainment expense, and anything you get back is a win. It's too bad that the more you win, the more money you have to spend, though.

Sounds like nothing has changed much since the last time I was in the taj (perhaps six years ago?).

What I really thought stood out most about the taj was that if you took a stack of chips and pressed on it real hard with your weight, you could probably pick up the whole stack by just the top chip, that's how dirty and nasty the chips were.

Most poker rooms wind up at least semi-trashed during very busy periods, particularly in areas that are near walls and hard to reach by wait staff (i.e. they don't get back there to pick up the empties, so the players toss them on the floor). How fast they get cleaned up varies.

What's the nastiest casino in the USA? Not sure, but since I have moved to vegas, I can tell you with much certainty that it won't be the taj in AC. Nastiest chips? The taj is at least on the list. Excalibur's chips are pretty nasty too. Hasn't someone invented a chip washer yet? Can't the casinos afford it??!!!!!

yes... the last 4 times I went to vegas I had a $50 slots bankroll/$50 other house games bankroll. Ive done this now 4 times. I've been to Barona 3 times for slots, each time having a $50 slots bankroll as well, no other games. At Barona, I've lost the $50 2 times, and once cashed out slightly over $200 = roughly +$50 at barona. In vegas, I've busted my slots 3 times, but cashed out at 180 (thanks to the klondike)... -$20 in vegas, so I guess I'm +$30 on slots. I've been using easy numbers so I could keep track over time... however these numbers dont include my first few trips to vegas, which was some nickels and quarters here and there on the way to other things...

Online I'm up $105 at allslots.com, lost on all jackpots -$25, and made $110 off the RV free spins promo... but I have wasted some off at eurobet slots, bankbuster is addicting... also right now im doing the first web casino... -$20 as of now

Are other big rooms cleaner?
If so then it's obviously possible for the Taj to step up their act too (note - have never been to AC).

Seriously, if you just hired a couple more cleaning people I suspect that it could make a world of difference.

There's no excuse for a poker-room to be THAT outrageously filthy.

I also don't think it should be that tough for casinos to clean their chips a little bit (and/or get new ones when the old ones are that disgusting).
They are pulling in millions/billions of dollars...and obviously are spending quite a bit on their outside appearance, marketing, etc etc. The expense to just keep the chips and the casino itself clean should be negligible but could have a world of impact on the overall playing experience there.

Do they want repeat customers?
Or do they want people to walk out saying, "that place was filthy and disgusting?"

That's the interesting thing. Taj is not short on customers. Mostly, they are of the "degenerate" variety, but a good number of non-degenerates go there, I guess because they like the "feel" of playing in such a place (on top of the game selection, which is usually pretty good). That's why I tend to make a stop there. I play at Borg mostly, but there is some strange appeal to the Taj.

The biggest irony is how it is billed to be "opulent" and "elegant", and anyone walking into the place can see how it's in major need of an overhaul. Not just the poker room, but the whole place.

Trump ran up so much debt, it takes pretty much every dime he makes just to pay the interest on it, leaving nothing to pour back into remodeling, etc. They're trying to start with the debt restructuring, but it's going to take a while.

Without a doubt, the dirtiest, scumiest casino in North America has to be the Western on Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas.

Ever seen a homeless gambling addict? One who begs $3 in change and has to immediately feed it to the slots?

You'll see plenty of that and more at the Western. Have fun!

Is this from a recent observation? I know it's been horrible in the past but recently the bathroom closest to the poker room has been very clean, mostly due to at least two employees that are very meticulous regarding keeping things spotless.

Played at Seneca Niagara last week. Room was a bit worn around the edges but the people... filthy with a capital F. One guy actually asked the whole table if anyone had any breath mints cause he "hadn't brushed his teeth or showered for three days". I sat next to him and he was probably underestimating by 50%. Chips weren't the worst I'd seen...Luxor's stick together better, but the ventilation system at Seneca Niagara left a lot to be desired.

I didn't even know that place had poker.

It was pretty famous on the BJ21.com site (kind of the 2+2 for blackjack card-counters) for having okay rules on their BJ games AND total filth throughout.
So even though I haven't been there I feel like I am intimately familir with the general disgustingness that is the El Cortez.

Amogst BJ card-counters it was a real dilemma at times I think.
You show up and bet $25 a hand and you're suddenly a high-roller and they will watch you very closely to see if you are trying to card-count.
But.....the games there are so much more favorable than those bad games they deal on the strip....
but....you almost need a shower after just walking in and out the door.

something like that anyway.
