The debit cards work because of high risk shell companies set up to obtain merchant processing where debit cards have a high acceptance rate. They don't actually apply for the merchant account under "NameofthePokerSite.com". You'll probably notice if you do another transaction in a couple weeks it is billed by a different merchant.
This is easy for the sites to do but very time consuming. With no choice most sites will do it. They have to just keep setting up new shell companies with a different figure head each time.

Some banks don't apply the credit card rules to debit cards.
