I used to play with Jay and Mike a little bit at Canterbury. They, like me, probably have been focusing more online over the past year. I've been wondering what became of some of them(Jay and Mike), haven't been able to talk to them in quite awhile.

Honestly, the tone of this article angers me beyond belief. It is just written so negatively. And if I'm not mistaken, the tournament being discussed was in October(Fall Classic). Why the [censored] would a tournament from October make the front page of the biggest newspaper in the metro?! It just smells of bs to me. I would like to hear from Mike, Jay, Schneids, BK and see what their take on this is.

I don't think it came off that negative, at least not any more so than your typical online poker destroying america's youth type article.

I was up at Canterbury a few months ago when visiting, but apparently no limit games are illegal there so everything was fixed limit which sucked.

I was interviewed for this as well. Pam seemed interested in my story, as I do not fit the stereotype of most of the players mentioned. (I'm in my mid 30's. Quit my teaching job because I make money more playing poker.) I guess I was not interesting enough.

Spending hours playing cards for hundreds of dollars an hour is "wasteful". But if some schmuck puts in 60 hours a week delivering pizzas earning $10 an hour, then he's "industrious and hard-working".

Seriously, I don't know why it's so hard to understand that for a ton of people, this is a profession. I only play poker about 30 hours a week, and I make a way better income than I could doing anything else.

A large percentage of the powers that be dislike poker for exactly this reason...or the fact that

Part 2 of the article was a joke: about a kid addicted to blackjack. I read it at the gym this morning - avoid.

They never mentioned him playing poker, just BJ. The problem was statements like these.

"We've heard from high schools that kids are showing up who haven't been to bed at night because they've been at the casino all night long," he said. "You hear stories about parents setting up Texas Hold 'Em nights. ... These kids are doing side bets and everything else."

The allure of gambling calls out to Matthew Bowles-Roth wherever he goes. When he drives on the freeway, casino billboards entice him with riches. When he buys cigarettes at the convenience store, lottery tickets shine under the glass counter. When he flips through TV channels, guys his age appear in high-stakes poker tournaments, beaming like movie stars.

Gambling... Lottery... Poker. Right there in the first paragraph...
