Today after being away from chapters bookstore a few months or so I decided its time to check out the new poker garbage being sold.
I`m very pleased to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see a few 2 + 2 titles on the shelf.
Mainly TOP, SSH, and HOH 1.
I laughed because they obviously didnt consider the fact HOH1 and 11 are esssential to one another.
I prefer the donks didnt get their hands on these books but then again they`ll lose interest the moment they realize the game is deeper then they ever anticipated.
Finally we`re getting books that are worth every cent.

I noticed this as well.

They still carry mounds of garbage but are finally starting to stock some quality books.

I always found this odd because you are able to purchase all of the 2+2 titles online but they carried very few in their stores.

The stores are good to read a few chapters of a book you may not want to actually purchase - amazon.ca still destroys the stores in terms of pricing.

Hi there!

I don't think that you'll have to worry about "donks" getting a hold of SSHE and actually reading it. One look at the first chapter - pot odds, implied odds, reverse implied odds, and pot equity, and most people who aren't willing to put in the time in will place the books back on the shelf.

SSHE and other 2+2 books will only be read by those of us who realize that poker is NOT an easy game and that it takes hours/months/years of studying and practice to become good at it.

Later...

i agree 100%.... twoplustwo has the best books but there are lots of others books that can make you a good low-limit player that chapters has sold for years (gary carson and all the clouthier books)...

don't forget also that not everyone wants to grind out 2BB/hour (or whatever). alot play for the gambling aspect.

and most others don't have the discipline to wait for good cards.

If only the UK was anything like as good. I've just come back from a visit to the Charing Cross Road (London's main bookshop district) in the hope of picking up something that I don't already own.

I checked out Borders, Foyles, Blackwells and the big Waterstones on Oxford Street. (Until recently, there was also SportsPages, a specialist sports bookstore that carried a decent selection of poker and other gambling books, but that's now closed down.)

I was surprised and impressed to see that Borders had a few copies of Theory of Poker. Foyles had one copy of Hold 'em for Advanced Players. Aside from those it was either DB publishing ('How good is your...'), Lose Your Shirt with Phil Hellmuth, or it was published by the dreaded Cardoza.

Thank God for Amazon. Come on, Mason. Sort out some decent UK distribution. If Cardoza can sell racks and racks of their junk, surely you can move some stock over here as well.

Yes, it's amazing how quickly they've upgraded their poker selection. This time last year, you couldn't find ANY 2+2 titles. Now, the big store here in Ottawa has TOP and both HOHs prominently displayed on their "Games" shelf at the front of the store, and they have tons of copies of all of them.
