I'm thinking about playing in the Oklahoma Championship of Poker in the $200+30 events on Feb. 6th and 8th. What's the Cherokee Casino like? Also, would you pre-register for an event like this or could you show up the day of and be ok? This is my first foray into a semi-major live tourney so I'm a bit clueless.

Cherokee is a very nice Casino (for Oklahoma). The cardroom is bigger and nicer than most rooms in Vegas. Plasmas everywhere and all tables have shufflemasters.

The hotel rooms are extremely nice too.

Competition is above average IMHO.

Definetly pre-register if you can. Nothing is worse than traveling to a casino, only to find you were entrant 101 in a 100 person tourney.

What city is Cherokee in... I always play at Winstar where the competition is soft as hell, but I would certainly be interested in playing in this 200 dollar event... Oh, one more question. Cherokee is 18+ like other OK casinos correct?

Cherokee is in Tulsa (actually a suburb called Catoosa).
It is the Wynn/Belagio of NE Oklahoma.

Sorry, Cherokee is 21+ and they usually card.

I've been looking for info on the website, but basically there is a sentence on satellites and the date of the tournament, but no further info. I've e-mailed them asking how to register and satellite info, we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the info.

If anyone in the Tulsa area could inquire about the Sit 'n Go satellites next time they go to the Cherokee Casino that'd be great. I'm assuming a 10-table $350 buy-in winner gets a seat in the main event or something like that.

It's really nice. I live near and play in Tunica, and it's quite comparible to any here. I stopped in while traveling from OKC to Fayetteville, AR one night and was extremely surprised. Over 20 tables, although only 9 or 10 were going that night (week night).

FWIW, there is also a Cherokee Casino with a poker room a little closer to Arkansas in West Siloam Springs, but it's nothing like the one outside Tulsa.
