I thought I knew what pot control was but after seeing some stuff about pot control I think my definition of it is way off. Can someone post a hand or 2 and show me what pot control is?

One example is with TPTK. You have A/images/graemlins/heart.gifK/images/graemlins/spade.gif and flop A/images/graemlins/diamond.gif7/images/graemlins/club.gif2 /images/graemlins/heart.gif. You are either WA or WB. The idea is to control the pot size so that you win the maximum when you are ahead and lose the minimum when you are behind. 3/4 pot on the flop, 1/2 pot on the turn, check behind on the river is one way to do this. By controlling the pot size, you also give yourself a chance to get away from the hand if you suspect that you are WB. If you just pot it all the way, you'll commit yourself.

I would say this is pot control:

It is when you are Way ahead/way behind, and want to reduce your varience, or when you have a mediocre holding which if it gets involved in a big pot might well be beaten

Mainly practiced by checking the turn with TP for example, but there are are lots of other ways: checking the river when only a better hand pays you off; checking the flop when WA/WB.

Pot control is more than keeping the pot small when you are marginal or vulnerable. It is also making the pot large when you have the best of it by far.

Pot control is simply achieving your objectives with respect to how much money goes it. People who think pot control is only keeping the pot small are thinking in terms that are too narrow.

Good point, although 'control' sounds to me like a negative thing: you keep fires under control. Pot size manipulation perhaps?

But yes a big hand deserves a big pot.

If you control the pot you can choose to keep it down or throw it through the roof.
