I feel like I really misplayed the hand, but I'm not sure what to do differently. It just felt like really thoughtless play to me, which is not good. I hadn't been at the table very long, so I didn't have any useful reads on the BB. What should I do on the turn?

I see this a lot with short stakers its usually AK or QQ+. Id just let it go against this guy, if he had a full stack Id take a flop and try to flop a set.

What range do you put villain on? most unknowns won't 3 bet you without QQ+ AK. If you widen that a bit due to the blind battle, it's probably Ax, 99+ liberally. The only hand you beat on the flop is 99 here. as played I would call the flop c-bet (for value against his unpaired aces) and see if I can check it down. If he fires again on the turn I'm done. Once you push you never get called by a worse hand. Your hand has showdown value against the Ax hands, don't try to push him off them with your stack.
