BB was a calling station, running at 36/25. He pays off a lot with marginal hands. I stacked him with AK v KT on a KK8 flop after 3betting him PF. I have 3bet him a lot and he has generally check/folded, except once with JJ.. check/calling the flop and check turn, check river on an all-undercard flop. He recently lost a big pot with KK to QJ on a xxJxQ board (allin on the turn) so he may be steaming.

He was a calling station so I thought there was decent value in a river bet and the raise confused me. I couldn't put him on a legitimate hand so I called?

I think I would have just checked the river behind. The calldown would make me kinda scary. You dont have a really strong hand too.
It strongly depends on the type of opponent and what hands he takes to the showdown.

Well against a calling station a river value bet is certainly reasonable. I call the c/r pretty fast given the read, that board is ugly as sin and I expect to see a weaker J or something random often enough to make it worthwhile.

I'll just reiterate that I definitely believe there's value in a river bet against this opponent.

Value bet river is fine vs this Villian. I can't really see what hand he could take this line with that has you beat so calling c/r is ok.

You almost have to bet the river for meta-game alone if you think anyone at the table is paying attention at all or else your river value bets with monsters will never get paid off.

Standard. If he had you beat you'll almost definitely get it back unless he leaves after this hand.

Id have to call this given ur read of him and the way this hand played out. I just dont see beating us here a lot he coulda slowplayed something but Im thinking he is just making a tilt play at u trying to take the pot.

43/63/46 are reasonable hands that beat you. It's still a weird play. With his big hands, was he the one raising?

When you reached the river what did type of hand did you put him on?

Is your turn bet standard for you or because you're value betting a calling station to death?

I'd want a pretty decent read before I'd bet the turn here. The flop is very dry and I'm looking to control the pot usually.

I'm big on just putting money in on 2 streets with TPTK, but if he's that much of a station the betting river can be ok...your hand examples haven't convinced me though.

At this point, though, I gotta call and hope for the weaker jack. But I expect to lose enough that I wouldn't go out and kick my cat if it happens.

I would. As long as it was your cat. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/laugh.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
