5NL: Button Raise Flops OESD, Donked Into

I've only been at the table for a few hands, no reads.

What do you guys feel is the better play here against an unknown:

Raise hoping to take it down now/disguise our hand if called

OR

Calling w/ odds to hit our draw/steal on a later street?

Call, raising with draws at very low limits does not work that well I find as villans find it hard to fold a K here. In addition, they find it hard to get awat from TO when a draw get there and so it's profitable calling with implied odds and then raising when/if you hit.

Getting 3.8:1 and an almost guaranteed bet from the aggressor on the turn, I think you call here. I see guys make horrible bets giving odds on every draw out there and then when they get there, pay those draws off.

I also agree with the prior poster. I've all but given up semi-bluffing except against the tighest players at this level, because I've been called down with as little as 2nd button no kicker. Instead, take advantage of being called down... value bet TPTK and everything else all the way to the river.

I think that it's good practice to normally raise 8+ outers in position.

Here however the weak lead seems fishy to me, and I would be glad to see the turn so cheaply with what is often an expensive draw (TJ draws usually run up against high cards - great implied odds, but usually bad pot odds).

A raise is only good against a good player. You may either take the pot down or get a free card on the turn, which will greatly disguise your hand and let you win a big pot on the river if you hit your draw.

Against you average fish, this is next to pointless. He's still gonna call your raise and possibly even lead the turn with another .15 bet.
