Who is going and how long are you staying? Chipr777 said in another thread that he would be able to get a small limit mixed game for 2+2'ers at the Shoe if we can get enough people.

I will be there from 1/11 - ??? (1/14 for sure).

Will attempt to start game or list in evenings of after midnight. And will also try to start game about when chipr is ending his shift.

Any chance we can rotate some Badugi in this mix?

My ideal rotation:

2-7 TD
Badugi
O/8
Stud Hi/Lo

I'm not a baller yet so I have never had the chance to get this game set up. Maybe we can work this in at a 4-8 to 6-12 type range?

Anyone else like this rotation?

The Razz would be a nice add too.

Here is everyone's lesson in Badugi (http://deathdonkey.com/?p=78) by DeathDonkey.

I am just looking to take a break from the constant grind, I will be drinking and having pure fun if we ever get this rotation going.

Lets get the dates set up and then maybe we can nail down a time. (Chipppr if you are reading give us some suggestions as to what times would be the best so you can help us spread this game)

Weekend Choices
Fri 5th - Sat 6th
Fri 12th - Sat 13th

I will try to compile who is wanting to play on what day and then send Chipppr a pm and see what he can set up for us.

Current interest list:

Razz
2-7 TD
Badugi
Stud Hi/Lo
O/8

Look forward to meeting some of you guys.

-Ben

Edit* Is everyone cool with the 4/8 limit?

i'll be there from the 4th-12th; maybe coming back later.

I'm down for mixed game assuming it's late enough that i'm done with whatever tourney. playing the 550 and maybe the 230 on saturday the 6th, for example.

stakes i'm good w/ up to like 10/20 for donking around; i'd actually like to play a serious mixed game if they have something in the 20/40 range. towers of white sounds good for 2p2 game tho.

For rules on Chinese go through the card player video archives during the WSOP. Layne Flack did a little tutorial on it. You can also play for free at www.vinagames.com (http://www.vinagames.com) to get the hang of it.

My buddies and I are making our annual Tunica trip for the early events of the WPO next week and we've heard an unsettling rumor. Is Platinum Plus closed for business? I heard about the latest raid but can't find out if it's still open or not?

Hey, we can't play poker the entire time we're there; we have to take a break sometime don't we? /images/graemlins/grin.gif

MrFizzbin

Its closed and the joint in Mississippi is closed as well.

Feds & locals raided it. Arrested them for Drugs, Prostitution, Money laundering the whole kit and caboodle.

The Playground will be closed for quite sometime... The owners are trying to relocate in West Memphis in Ark. but the locals there are making every effort to change the zoning ordinances to prevent it.

MicroBob
12-30-2006, 06:20 AM
Can you believe I didn't even know that Platinum was still closed?

That's how much I keep up with these things.
I remember hearing of that raid on the news several months ago but didn't know it was still out.

The 'joint in Mississippi'... Do you mean the 'Caberet' that is right on the Memphis/Mississippi line on Hwy 61?
Wasn't aware that place was closed either.

Hearing a lot of radio commercials for a new club called NY Dolls. I don't even know where it is though.

Babes Show-club was getting a lot of radio air-play too...but not as much anymore I don't think.

Yep thats the place the Cabaret is also closed owned by the same dude that owned Platinum. The head of the Memphis "Beer Board" (responsible for enforcing booze laws.) had to resign amid the controversy.

I live near Tunica and while playing at Gold Strike heard that Horseshoe and Grand are sponsoring a 250k bad beat jackpot that you only need to lose with Aces full of kings or better to win.

That contrasts with the usual bad beat jackpot of 250k at Gold Strike that you have to lose with 4 tens or better to win. Hope the rumor is true- I will start playing at Horseshoe and/or Grand.

MicroBob
12-31-2006, 11:39 PM
Please refer to it by it's correct name, 'Caberet'.
This is pronounced Cab-EE-ray.

They bought the big neon letters to put on top of the building, yet they spelled 'Cabaret' wrong.
they get the spelling correct for their billboard advertisements though.

Didn't know it was under the same ownership as Platinum.
Parking lot always looked pretty empty every time I drove past. Even on weekends it didn't look to me like they were doing a lot of business.

Now with the new I-69 connector I don't drive down Hwy 61 anymore so had no idea they were closed.

One of the owners for the Caberet place died about 6 months ago.

I think the papers published something from his will..... saying he wanted everyone to know that he didn't owe anyone a dime.

Technically that mat have been true. But I know he owed over 100k to at least one company that he finally got them to settle for much less than the 100k.

I'm 3/8 with 38K chips, 291K in play, it goes something like 78/63/38/33/25/20/15/15

I think we're still in the middle of the 300 ante 500 bringin 1500/3000 round, 2K/4K is next I think but I'm not sure of the ante don't have the sheet w/ me.

I think you might just be stuck with the bus service.

But perhaps they go later on the weekends?
Maybe the bell-desk at the Grand OR at the Gold Strike would have ideas.

Maybe there's some cab-service but I don't recall ever seeing many cabs around there.

Otherwise, I think it's probably pretty damn difficult getting around Tunica without a car after-hours.

In other news, Matt24 informs me that they're done for play today in the $1060 6-max NLHE event.

They're down to 7 players and he's still alive.

No idea what his chip-stack is or what the pay-outs are.
I stopped by earlier when they were down to 30 players and he had about a zillion chips. Might have been close to having the rest of his table covered at the time.

Didn't stay long. I had to go to the Gold Strike to bust-out of their $550 2nd-chance event.

What the hell did I miss? Anyone have any details on what happened there on Saturday?

From PokerNews.com -

"Blood is Shed in Tunica
We hear that it was a wild night last night in the poker room at the Gold Strike in Tunica, which is currently hosting the lead up events to the upcoming WPT $10,000 tournament. Reportedly, there were two separate incidents in the poker room last night that resulted in bloodshed. The good old days of the riverboat gamblers haven’t left us quite yet."

DoGGz

Yea, this happened on the table right behind me, I was looking straight at it when it happened (or at least one of them).

Apparently some cowboy asked a man not in a hand to be quiet (he was talking to his friend not in the game). The man did not hear him, and continued to chat, so he dived over the table and punched him square in the nose. Blood was everywhere and it looked like his nose was broken.

It was funny because the guy then asked him if he wanted his hanky. Who breaks a guys nose then trys to help him?

Needless to say the poker room basically stopped playing cards for about 5 minutes.

OK I can chime in one one of the bloodshed moments. It happened on a table kitty corner to where I was playing. They were playing in a $125 2 winner single table satellite. Two guys were talking about there home game somewhere during a hand. One guy said "you need to shut the [censored] up about the hand." From what I heard it was a total misunderstanding and they weren't talking about the hand at all. The one guy didn't like what was heard and turned around and jacked the other in the nose. When I turned around blood was guushing from his nose. He said "somebody get him out of here before I do something." Security took him away.

He guy taken away was a middle aged dude in a cowboy hat that was totally wasted.

Wow Harrahs is incompetent. At 11:03, 3 minutes after the posted start time they announce that they mistakenly printed some buyin tickets with a noon start time so they won't start play until noon.

I wouldn't be upset if they would have told us before I was at my table with my chips, and before the tournament was posted to start. If this is how circuit events are going to be run I'll make sure to avoid them and just play on the WPT.

Shuttle service between Grand & Gold Strike was ramped up on weekends last year (I was there during WPT championship event). Finding out which bus to take was a bit of a chore...we did a big loop once.

If I went back, I'd definitely rent a car in Memphis:

1) save the $60-80 each way cab/shuttle fare to casino from Memphis airport
2) run between Grand & Gold Strike hotels on my time

I guess car rentals from Memphis are dirt cheap ($25/day I was told). Even just to & from the airport would've saved $$.

Anyone in Tunica able to trade 5 - 15k in cash for an online transfer? I will transfer first of course and can do FTP,PStars, UB ect. I'll even toss in $25 bucks for your troubles.

The guy that was talking during the hand that wasnt even in the hand was talking in another lanuage and was from like the middle east or something. Poor guys nose was slanted over his face and it took like 3 or 4 towels to stop the bleeding.

Ok, can someone please tell me how to get around Tunica without a car? This bus service stops at midnight or 2am, and I'm staying at the Grand.

What exactly am I supposed to do if I'm playing in a tourny at the GoldStrike and it runs after 11pm? Anyone have any ideas let me know.

Even just to & from the airport would've saved $$.

yeah, that's good advice for newcomers to Tunica who are flying in (albeit a little late for this event I guess).

Shuttle fare is that much from the airport too? Then DEFINITELY just rent a car.
And this is especially true for anyone who expects to do ANY casino-hopping around Tunica because taking the shuttle would have to be too inconvenient.

Horseshoe and Gold Strike are practically attached to each other...so that's not a problem.
But the Grand is not something that you can walk to.

Hell, I think renting is the better option even in LV (where cabs and shuttles are everywhere unlike Tunica)

I did one LV trip with no rental....all cabs, shuttles, monorail. Not as convenient sometimes...and kinda pricey.

Did another trip with a rental. Liked it much better.

For $30/day or so I think having your own car is the way to go on Tunica trips.
Only way it isn't is if you are staying at GS/HS and pretty much have zero interest in going anywhere else.

Well if you mean the Circuit Championship, Pokerpages had coverage. For the WPT pretty much everywhere will have coverage.

The only problem I have is coporate has those places blocked. That's why I, as well as a couple other here, ask others to take the minute to post stuff like this.
