Anyone know where the best place to play poker in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area is?

I'm going to be there in the spring and don't know what's available.

Thanks!

Loose, mostly, esp. at night. It's similar to what you'd see in LA if you've ever played there.

That was a NL thread. By AZ law there can be no poker bet larger than $150 so the most you'll find is 5-150 spread limit in addition to a full variety of limit games. I hope you enjoy your visit.

IME the 3-6 and 4-8 games are typical loose passive games. People playing too many hands and taking them too far, literally textbook SSHE type play.

It's fun, but don't raise too much or people will call you an internet player!

Percula is a resident pro that plays the 5-150 at CA...he'd be a great one to PM. Been there to play the 20-40 and loose doesn't begin to describe it... /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Its nothing like LA at all, it is not even close to the aggression you will find in an LA game. Phoenix plays like a Vegas game, except the local pros are even worse than the Vegas local pros. Best time to play is during a football/baseball game promotion, your opponents will be watching the large screen projections that are all over the room, not the game itself - hence why the games are so good. The only downside with Casino Arizona is the number of inbred people, I've never met so many Billy Joe Bobs in one room at the same time before. They are not your average Scottsdale wealthy consumer.

Yikes!!! We've been dissed!!!

But, ok, you might be right about the aggression difference but there are still 7 players to a flop a lot of the time. That's more LA than Vegas.

Let me know the next time you're dropping by and I'll tell everyone to shower and shave, put in their dentures, and wear shirts with collars. No cowboy hats or chew, either.

btw: The football promotion is terrific. I've cashed $1,000 this year. If you play 20-40 or higher it's a freeroll because they take it out of the jackpot drop from the smaller games.

LOL. Too True.

You get that "Where do these people come from" feeling when you're there. It's like the super walmart "I know you don't live around here, so where did you come from?"

i think the 20-40 40-80 games are closer in style to la than vegas. I was there right before the holidays and cannot want to get back.

I watched the 20-40 while I was standing in line to buy chips for the 3-6 and I was pretty amazed at some of the showdowns and the number of people seeing the flop. Most people had about 1 or 2 racks of $5's so there was a considerable amount of money being thrown about.

When I was there in Nov., literally "any two will do" and the truism "there are no such things as bad hands, just bad flops" was the norm there. Sure, there are a couple of decent/solid players, but the vast majority (at least during my 36 hours of playing there that short trip) were terrible. J /images/graemlins/heart.gif 2 /images/graemlins/heart.gif is playable UTG, dontcha know? /images/graemlins/wink.gif

So why is that different than most hold'em games spread nationwide lately? I see crap like that all over, wherever I travel. Face it, thats why you play Hold'em - the opponents generally suck. This is not all specific to Casino Arizona.

No arguments here. TT is 100% correct. Just kinda shocked me as my "normal" game is still 10/20 (BR can't handle 20/40 full-time yet). Just "assumed" that the play wouldn't be THAT bad up in the middle limits. Was just very nice to see is all /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks for all the replies. Looking forward to playing some cards there.

One thing I forgot to ask is when the best time to go would be and how long the wait for a table is likely to be.

I have no idea if I can just stroll in anytime and play in some good games or if I need to show up at 9pm on a Friday and expect to wait 2 hours for a table, say. I'm totally flexible on when I go.

Given that there is no NL, I'd be looking to play in some modest limit games, 3-6 to 5-10 type of thing.

Re-read the thread, your question was already answered. Show up shortly before a big game, thats the best time.

Sort of. I've picked up that night and during sports promotions are best.

Maybe I'm worried about nothing, I've just heard about 3 hour waits for tables at live card rooms (in L.A.) and I want to avoid that.

If you were planning to go on a Thursday evening, say, what time would you show up so there's not a long wait for a table?

Or, how early before the sports event starts would I need to get there in order to get a seat quickly?

The worst I have ever seen it was new years day... They only had two of my game running as the 3/6 and 4/8 games over ran the room and it took about 2 hours to get a seat.

Most nights for 3/6 to 6/12 you are not looking at more than 30mins even when the place is packed. Remember there are something like 50 tables there, most of them are running 3/6 to 6/12 HE.

The best action is like most places, weekend nights, when the drunks are out and about.
