Sounds like Party overestimated the people that would cruise...Originally the prize pool was estimated over 10 million, then dropped to 8, 7, 5, now 4 million.

So you've gotta finish top 15 in all 6 freerolls and you have to play 1000 raked hands the day before each freeroll?

Sounded like they were giving away a total of 90 cruises, the top 15 for each freeroll gets the cruise.

Knowing Party, you have to be in the top 15 for every single freeroll. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Who would want to go on the cruise without a tourney entry?

Once I get the email I'm going to respond that they should cut the number of prizes and award full packages. I encourage others to do the same even though our prostetations will be routed through the "people who pretend not to speak English so they don't have to listen to you" department.

The cruise kicks ass. There are cash games going round the clock and Holland America is a great cruise line. I would highly recommend trying for this despite the fact that it doesn't include a PPM entry.

Not going to happen. They paid for all the rooms on the boat. so it costs nothing to them to give away 90 rooms. at this point they are not going to add the 10K buy in.

It clearly says that the package does not include airfare. But you get $500 in cash.

If I didn't already have a package I would DEFINITELY be trying for this.

Lots of people LOVE going on the card-player cruises that don't have major tournaments on them. And most report that they have an outstanding time.
Just because you don't get the tourney entry doesn't mean you shouldn't want it.

As mentioned before, the cash-games are quite good, the cruise is great, Holland America is great.
They also will probably run some otrher second-chance tourneys on the cruise for $500 or so perhaps if you really want your tourney fix.

if you are available to go on this (and have a GF or wife you want to treat and impress) then trying to win this is a no-brainer.

They obviously have left-over cabins that they want to fill up with high-volume online-players (more rake for cardplayer and party).
Party VIP'ers luck out in this regard. Take advantage of it and try to get there.

[/ QUOTE ]

The limit games from 5/10 - 20/40 were similar to party's games. There were a few total donks, but overall the games weren't easy.

However, this year they're given away over 100 packages to high rolling blackjack players. I think they're also giving packages for a slot tourney from their starluck/planetluck casinos. I'm hoping that the live games improve because of this.

I don't know about the NL games on the boat, other than there were a lot of them from 1/2 to at least 10/20, maybe higher.

They are trying to fill up their empty cabins.

The chances of them refunding you the value in cash is roughly zero imo.

Do you think this will be tracked on the bonus page? This may seem like a dumb question but if I am playing at 12 am it automatically starts counting towards the next day right. So I could play 500 hands from 12-3AM then the next day at say 7-10?

well, you are still playing on the same day actually. So yes.
Make sure you are thinking in terms of eastern time-zone though.

It likely won't be on the bonus page.
you'll have to keep track of the raked-hands yourself.

You can do this on pokertracker via the game-notes tab (filter for hands that have been raked $0.25 or more).

1) I see this freeroll is advertised now in the Party main lobby. I thought it was only for VIPS? Or can only VIPS see this?

2) Is it one person per cabin on the cruise or can I invite friends?

3) At 10/20 6max, are all hands raked hands? I played 1k hands today according to the little statistics box. Is there a way to find out how many raked hands this was?

Thanks fellas.

[/ QUOTE ]

No - they're not all raked (prob about 80% at 10/20 6-max) -- if no flop is seen, no rake.

In PT go to the Preferences tab and set the date preferences for today only. Go to Game Notes tab and click "get all." At the bottom of the hands display there will be the acronym "TRH -> XXX" where XXX equals the number of hands that you played that were raked (if you played 1000 hands, I guess 807 - what do I win if I'm right?).

Edit: If you win a cabin, can I get some of your action in the big money slots tourney?

I have a few questions about the cabin fever promotion.

1) When will the daily tournaments be available for registration?

2) If I win a cabin on the cruise, can I bring a guest?

3) I have a friend who is in the Party Poker VIP program, as am I. He said
he got an email from Party Poker announcing the cabin fever promotion. In
his email, it said that the winners would get a cabin on the cruise and
$500. The details listed on the website do not mention the $500. Was his

Thank you for getting in touch.

You can register from 00:01 (ET) for a the freeroll tournament that starts at 19:00 (ET).

Each freeroll will give away 15 cabins to the 15 first ranks (cabin value $2500). If a VIP wins (is part of the 15 winners), $500 will be added to his/her account. This is not on the main site as all players can see that information, which is why we sent an email out to VIP players separately.

You can accommodate two persons per cabin.

The standard room booked for our players is a Deluxe Verandah Outside Stateroom, which can accommodate 2 people; absolutely free.

If you bring 1 additional guest (3 people in all) you need to upgrade to a Superior Veranda Suite and if you bring 2 additional guests (4 people in all) you need to upgrade to a Deluxe Veranda Suite. This is in addition to the $600 charged for each additional guest.

Upgrade for $900 - Superior Veranda Suite

Also possible that you have p-tracker set for a different time other than midnight EST.

If you played 1700 total hands of 2/4 or 3/6 limit then it's likely that you actually haven't played 1000 raked-hands (50% or less are raked at those limits in my experience).

why don't you just check your p-tracker to see how many of your hands were raked (and whether you played them during the right hours)?

My guesses:

1. Lots of people didn't see that registration was already open.

2. Not as many players play 1k raked-hands per day as you might think. (it's possible).

They're already up to 109 players now. But it's also 1.5 hours after midnight. So you may be looking at a field of way less than 300. The Super Bowl factor could be a major contributor to this as well.

i asked Party support if I could accept an extra cabin if I were to try this (invite somebody else, or sell it, whatever).

They said that I would basically be playing just for the $500 cash only if I played the freeroll tournament.

$7500 / 300 players (top 15 places and I get a $500 cash reward...doesn't matter to me that the non-VIP'ers wouldn't be getting the cash if they won a seat. It plays like a $7500 value prize-pool for my purposes).

This is still akin to a $25 tourney-entry value which isn't terrible.

but it will be primarily against fairly solid competition I think (lots of you guys) and certainly a $25 'bonus' (in form of tourney entry) isn't exactly great for 1k raked-hands.

Plus, I would essentially be taking away a cabin from one of you guys if I were to win it which wouldn't be very nice.

I've got other sites to hang-out at (bonuses to clear, rakeback to accumulate) while I wait for Party's next VIP-bonus.

If they had a different VIP-bonus or target running concurrently with this then I would do it in a second.
But nothing else is going on at party right now so the $500 in cash is not so attractive.

I too played more than 1000 raked hands and it won't let me register. I cut it pretty close though. PT says I played 1074 raked hands.

If you look at the PP Lobby it has the time underneath their logo. That's what their full day "should" go by. If you believe you have over 1000 raked hands send them an email asap. The raked hands should be calculated up to the second the hand is complete, at least that's how it is for Bonuses and I doubt they are using something different for this.

Dennisa
02-05-2006, 04:38 AM
I also belive that the rake must be at least 10 cents or 1 cent per player. It may make a small difference if you are playing 25 or 50 nl games.

Dopey

I was able to register last night like a minute after I hit 1K. Finished with 1024 raked hands.

Im going to need to get extrememly lucky though as I don't play tournaments and Im pretty sure I suck (I don't play no limit either.)

Its at 135 right now, Im being optimistic and hoping they get like <200 players today and that it continues to drop as the week goes on with less people able to play during the week (both # of raked hands and the early start of touny for west coast players) and people who win in the first few days don't re-qualify because you can only win one package.

I havent seen this cleared up, if I win a cabin and cant travel too it (I believe airfare from sweden will be a bit expensive for my taste) is there ANY chance that I can sell/get a refund for my cabin? I dont care if its $500 less value, if I cant travel to it it doesnt really matter.

Dopey
02-05-2006, 12:13 PM
No, If you cant make the cruise you would only be playing for the potential $500 awarded to VIP's.

If I couldn't make it to the cruise, I personally wouldn't play the freeroll, as while the $500 potential prize is great I wouldn't think it would be fair to win the main prize knowing full well I wouldn't use it.

Also, regarding the package for non-VIPers... do we get ANY spending money? Or are we left to fend for our own airfare and such? Sucks if that's the case, I may reconsider going...

MicroBob

The standard one is the Deluxe outside verandah stateroom.

For $200 or $400 downgrade you get one of the lower level ones.

Or for $900 or $1500 more you can get one of the suites.

Last year when I qualified they were out of the 'standard' ones and I had to take a $200 refund for a downgrade (because I didn't want to spend for an upgrade).
The difference is noticeable (no verandah/balcony in the lower one) and I'm very happy that I get the 'regular' one this year.

wezvidz
02-06-2006, 02:10 PM
Well I found out I don't qualify for VIP unfortunately.

And I'm not real happy that the package doesn't include flights. Looking at orbitz.com, looks like the "free cruise" I won is gonna end up costing me and my friend $400 or so each in flights. I asked them about a downgrade with extra money being credited to my account. If this can't happen, I probably won't be going.

MicroBob
02-06-2006, 02:16 PM
you should be able to get the downgrade.

but for just the cost of airfare this cruise is a steal and you would be foolish to turn it down.

Also - last year I was FORCED to take a downgrade because they were all out of the standard-cabin (deluxe verandah outside stateroom).

The lower-level cabins are not nearly as good. No verandah. Just a little window.

Of course, you shouldn't want to spend much time in your room anyway (and they look the same when the lights are out and you're sleeping) but the Verandah with open-doors right out to the ocean is kind of nice for morning-coffee or whatever.

we are extremely happy that this year we were able to get the standard cabin.

My recommendation is that you should definitely go regardless. It's a true bargain for just the cost of air-fare.
And you really should prefer to get the better cabin instead of trying to save $200.

You are really grumpy about winning something for free.

(fwiw - I won mine 'for free' as well and I don't get any extra spending money. although mine came with the tourney-entry too)

Stingray City anyone? I really hope this is an optional excursion at Grand Cayman. I was there when I was 8 and it was the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my entire life. It's life the National Geographic channel swimming around your waist.

wezvidz

Well I've cruised twice before, both with Royal Carribbean. Got the lowest level cabin offered both times with no regrets (low in the ship, no window, really small). As you said, little time is spent in there, so I see no need for anything above the most basic.

I know I sound grumpy, just too many complications arising. Didn't want to spend a chunk of extra money for this, although I really want to go. The cruise also happens to fall right in the week of finals here at Ohio State, so if I decide to want to pay for everything, I will have to haggle with professors to try and take my finals early.

I'm going to do everything in my power to go though. I need a vacation.

MicroBob

basco
02-06-2006, 05:53 PM
No problem. Actually, when I was there we went on a boat tour in a fishing boat with about 20 other people. We spendt an hour at a bunch of different 'stops' where we dove for conch shells, snorkeled with parrot fish, pet stingrays in stingray city, and went deep sea fishing (sat in the boat). For lunch we had conch and some huge fish they caught. It's still one of my favorite vacation memories.

I should stress that I was 8 at the time, so time may have glorified this memory. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hmm, I'm looking at $1K in airfare for me and the GF. I'm still fresh out of college... alright, no whining, gotta do it! Especially so I can watch my friend bust out of the Poker Tourney / Blackjack Tourney / Bingo Tourney.

Hey guys, some of us are still trying to win our first cabin! (Grumble).

Bob posted that you can't win two cabins, and they definately wouldn't reimburse you for a second win, but you may be able to win the vip 500 a second time.

Where exactly does this cruise leave from?

MicroBob
02-06-2006, 06:48 PM
cruise leaves from Ft. Lauderdale (just north of Miami).

If you are having airline price difficulties you should try FtL airport as well as MIA.

Cab-ride (or whatever) will be longer from MIA but might be worth it to you.

I went to Expedia and then to Orbitz and was surprised to see that expedia was significantly more expensive.

Here's what VIP told me regarding winning an extra cabin (short version...no, you don't get an extra cabin, you are just playing for the cash):

Dear Bob,

Thank you for getting in touch.

If you went ahead and played in one of the freerolls and came in the
top 15 you would only receive 500 USD. Cabins are not refundable or
transferable.

As a VIP player you may well play 1000 raked hands in a day ordinarily
which will make you immediately eligible for the freeroll as long as
you maintain that level. Keeping that in mind you may as well play the
tournament anyway and think of the top prize as being 500 USD.

Your February offer details will be released in a couple of weeks.

Have a nice day!!

Zach

MicroBob
02-06-2006, 07:48 PM
I don't think there will be that many VIP's playing it just for the money. But certainly there could be a couple out there and you are correct that they should award some extra cabins for that.

Obviously they are just trying to fill up the extra cabins with high-volume players so they can boost their rake for the cruise (and make you guys play a lot of raked-hands to try to get there).

If you play every one of these freerolls and still don't get in I would consider writing to them and saying, "Look...if you still have extra cabins I'm totally interested. I played every freeroll trying to get there and just didn't make it. I promise I will play 9-zillion hours of 40/80 limit on the boat and that cardplayer and party will make plenty of money in rake off of me if you invite me aboard."

Certainly couldn't hurt to try.

Good luck guys.

I just said that IF you play every one of these and STILL don't get one of the 15 cabins that they are giving EVERY night (90 cabins in total) then you should write to party and beg, "I tried REALLY REALLY hard but didn't make it. Do you want to just please let me in the cruise anyway?!?!"

Arnfinn Madsen

You have to play quite long, very many make the mistake of stopping playing too early. It may take half an hour to get from 20 to 15 since almost everyone avoids confrontations. These guys are too good to make it easy. Your big stack will be a great advantage though since people will fold to your raises more often and you may thus make your way in without much risk.

Time bank is for whole tourney. It activates automatically. When it is empty, it cannot be used again.

Thank you dearly.
My condolenses to bigalt and twohands who were slain by my wrath. Other than 33 > AA (with my stack not in danger), laid a preflop all in win with AQ over AK when I was covered and JQs over TT that would have halfed my stack at around 35 players. Also won a hand that would make Friedman cry early in the tourney (A9s flush over K6s flush) early on. I'm excited... probably more so about the $500 right now because I don't know how or if I can make the cruise although I'll give it a shot.

I'm pretty sure I saw parents there bringing kids 10 yrs old and younger.

But these are relatives of course.
As for just some 16 or 17-year-old friend of yours that might be different.

You'll get an e-mail from party at some point I'm sure.

The person that's been contacting me since then is marcy@cardplayercruises.com

you could write to her and say that you just won your spot on the PPM cruise and you have a couple Q's.

Dear Paul,

Thank you for contacting us.

This is an offer to give as many players as possible a chance to win the Cabin Fever prize.

If a player wins a cabin fever prize or a PPM V package he is not eligible to win another cabin fever prize, hence you would not be entitled to win the $500 multiple times.

If you require further assistance please do not hesitate to contact the VIP team by email at vip@partypoker.com.

We wish you the best of luck, and thank you for choosing us as your online gaming site.

WTF?

I specifically asked about this a couple days ago...and a different Party rep told me something like, "You might as well play the freeroll because you can still win the $500. As a VIP player you are probably already playing 1k raked-hands a day anyway....so jump into the freeroll and try to win the $500. But no, you would not be eligible for another cabin."

I posted the e-mail from Jaime at VIP somewhere in this thread (or elsewhere on the forums) but don't feel like finding it.

But not only did he directly say that I would just be playing for the $500 in cash if I played the freeroll...he was directly ENCOURAGING me to take advantage of this offer.

I'm amused by the inconsistency of their bonuses.

But it's total incompetence and lack of communication with stuff like this that ticks me off significantly more about Party.

Do their reps just make up these policies as they go along (thus the complete and total opposite responses)??

[censored] 22nd when I went out. I was 8th in chips. Is this a bad move?

MicroBob
02-09-2006, 12:18 AM
8th in chips doesn't say much at all.

8th by how much?
How short were the stacks?
Were the blinds about to go up?
Hpw much did 15th place have.

8th in chips with 22 to go means that you probably still had to accumulate chips to make it I'm guessing.

You could have called and saw the flop and decided from there where it would takes you (although you still make have gotten confidence on an all undercard board).

Taking on the highest stack at the table is dangerous.
Had he been bullying the table? If he's been running over everyone then maybe you could expect the possibility of him folding to your aggression.

With all those warnings and caveats in there....this is a pretty tough decision I believe (going on incomplete information).

I look at what place I'll be in if I just decide to call and then give up from there (would 8k or 9k in chips still be in top 15??)....and if on the flop I decide to make a weak-tightish fold if he plays at me and I'm afraid of being beat.

I don't blame you for playing it like that though.

Pog0

As a general note probably applicable to all winners from this point forward:

"Unfortunately we do no longer have any Deluxe Veranda outside Cabins available but you will be booked into an outside Stateroom instead and we will refund $200 to you. Therefore you will receive $700 not just $500 next week."

If anyone knows the difference between these rooms, I'd like to know.

MicroBob
02-09-2006, 12:47 AM
Big big difference imo.

You can go to the Hollandamerica.com site and see the pics for yourself.

We wewre stuck in the outside stateroom last year as well.
It's not terrible or anything....but it's small and with a fairly small window looking outside.

We're very happy to get the better one this year.
Has it's own little mini-verandah that you can walk out onto. And a little more space overall too.

You won't be spending too much time in the cabin anyway...but the outside stateroom is definitely unspectacular.

You can still try to spend the extra $900 and upgrade to a suite if you like.
But, again, since you shouldn't be spending too much time in your cabin anyway it shouldn''t be a big deal.

Even with the outside stateroom last year we had a truly fantastic time the whole way through.

MicroBob
02-09-2006, 01:22 AM
I think you should do it.

I sat next to a guy in the tournament last year from Denmark. He brought his GF with him.

I don't think this guy had much chance to go anywhere in the tourney (he was super-loose...and very unfamiliar with live-play...kept string-betting and making other novice errors).

He and his GF looked like they were pretty much having the time of their lives. He was all excited to go para-sailing the next day, etc etc.

I don't know...maybe it somehow turned out miserable for him by the end. But I think that most of the Europeans who came over last year were pretty pleased with it.

FWIW - Last year it was out of SD...and because I qualified in the marathon-promo I didn't get any extra cash.

I think our plane tix from Memphis to San Diego were around $750 or so. So your flight for 2 really wasn't much more than what I had to pay.
Plus there was also a night in a hotel in SD the night before for another $100 or so.

This year, flying from Memphis to Ft. Lauderdale round-trip is only $250 each or so...thus I'm pretty happy.

I Just checked the Holland America Website and it says:

Guests under 21 years of age must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or chaperone who is at least 25 years old; one adult chaperone is required for every five people under the age of 21. Alcoholic beverages will not be served to guests under age 21. Due to limited medical facilities on the ships, we will not accept reservations for infants 12 weeks or younger.

Minors under age 18 traveling to certain foreign countries must be accompanied by both parents or have a notarized letter of consent signed by the parent(s) not traveling. If the other parent is deceased or the child has only one legal parent, a notarized statement must be obtained as proof. Your travel agent can provide additional information about this requirement.

PLEASE NOTE: In an effort to prevent international child abduction, many governments have initiated procedures at entry and exit points. These often include requiring documentary evidence of relationship and permission for the child's travel from the parent(s) or legal guardian if not present. Having such documentation on hand, even if not required, may facilitate entry or departure. For specific information regarding the country you are traveling to, please visit http://travel.state.gov for country-by-country information.

Parents, guardians and chaperones are responsible for overseeing the conduct of minors in their care. As such, minors may not be left unsupervised on board the ship.

This directly contradicts what party poker support told me. I am Totally confused. I will be calling Holland America tomorrow morning to figure this all out. I don't think i know anyone i want to bring who's atleast 25!
