how does declare work HU? can't you declare hi, lo, and both hi and lo?

what if you picked hi and lo and the villian picked hi. and you have the best hi hand but the losing lo hand. neither player won their delcaration. or you could pick hi when you only have the best low and they could pick lo when they only have the best hi. who wins what in that hand?

the player who declares hi/lo must have the best hi & low hand in order to win. so in your first example, the player who declared low would win.

the second example is a split pot.

that's right. i made my earlier response without reading his question carefully. if you go hi/lo and no one goes low, you only have to win the hi hand.

To our collective knowledge, David is not a HU specialist (although he of course is a short handed specialist). Beal however is, and has proven is ability over time. Since Beal plays nothing but HU (again, to our collective knowledge.. there is no way to verify my statement other than hearsay and "Suicide King"), it might me safe to say that David would be at a disadvantage. Its my personal opinion that many in the corporation is at a slight disadvantage to Beal, it seems as if Daniel's statements on his blog are probably correct that most in the group are not excellent Hold'em limit players, let along HU limit players.

While I'm for sure not the guy who knows much about HU and these guys like a lot of guys posting, from me watching Sklansky on TV I haven't thought he was that good. It always seems to me like he is scared to put pressure on opponents/go with a gamble and is pretty weak tight. While I'm by no means saying he's not a solid player (he's light years ahead of me), it seems as if he has been overmatched when I've seen him play on TV (granted just a handful of tourneys).

David declined an open challenge from Daniel to play HU because a coin flip for that amount of money is not a good gamble. Frankly, I don't blame him. If anything its an excellent representation of David's gambling skills, as taught to us in excellent 2+2 books such as Gambling Theory & Other Topics, and Getting the Best of It.
