I was just wondering if i could get some takes on Q J offsuit from early position pre flop. do many people raise with it? just call? or is it a fold? i am tryin to pick up on some things here and there and IMO Q high pre flop is not very strong, especially since if you raise someone could easily have K J, K Q, A Q, A J. thanks ya'll.

Fold Q J off in EP. Its an easily dominated hand and will put you in a terrible spot OOP if a Q or J flops

I raise with QJo UTG most of the time. If I'm at a very loose table, or I am involved in some big hands on other tables, I fold it.

This is what I do too. FR, or course it is a clear fold, 4-handed it is a definite raise. I don't mind raising if the player that will call me is in the blinds; in other words, I don't mind a call, as long as I'm in position. When tight players in position wake up with hands but just flat call me preflop, I'm looking to make 2pr+.

I don't have any standard rules for QJo, but I usually raise in early position. If I get a reraise, I fold. If I get a flat call, I tread carefully.

From Tien's wonderful guide:
[ QUOTE ]

UTG: You want to play real damn tight, fold suited connectors, fold high cards, fold Axs hands. But continue to raise pocket pairs in ANY POSITION. Pocket pairs have the ability to flop such powerful monsters that you just can’t fold them in any position. Raising pocket pairs is so mandatory. Assume 100BB stacks. You raise 44 in MP and get reraised. You call and flop comes 346, 2410, 410J, 345. You are stacking KK AA 100% of the time.
Don’t limp either. It is so transparent when a weaktight (who thinks he is a TAG) limps UTG, and calls you raise. He has small pocket pair or suited connector 99% of the time.
Continue to raise AJo and better. Folding QKo and KJo, as well as QJo is not bad play at all. These hands are pretty garbage out of position.

I raise QJo from the button, and sometimes the co, it will get you in trouble pretty easy, especially if you play it OOP

fold qj offsuit in early position all day. If it were suited it probably becomes a marginal raise.

would have to agree, utg through utg+2 i fold these hands 95% of the time

I'm talking about 6max. FR it's a definite fold in EP.

This is a fold in 6max UTG no doubt. I probably fold in UTG+1 as well. CO I'd be tempted to raise it. Button I would raise without blinking.
All above assumes I'm first to enter the pot.
