I don't seem to be able to fold TPTK. No reads, 2nd orbit.

I call preflop to keep from bloating the pot OOP with a hand that has bad reverse implied odds. I checked the flop assuming that one of the 5 guys would bet, then raised to try to get it HU and for value. I think that I should have folded to the min 3-bet though, but the villain only had 2 bucks behind him at the time.

CO: gcbossen1 (37.86)
Button: big dolpin (14.17)
SB: Hero (30.47)
BB: DaniPecs13 (18.13)
UTG: Villain (20.03)

Preflop: Hero is in SB with A/images/graemlins/diamond.gif Q/images/graemlins/club.gif
<font color="red">Villain raises to $1</font>, CO calls, Button calls, Hero calls, BB calls

Flop: ($5) 7/images/graemlins/spade.gif Q/images/graemlins/spade.gif 3/images/graemlins/club.gif
Hero checks, BB checks, <font color="red">Villain bets $3</font>, <font color="#666666"> 2 folds, </font><font color="red">Hero raises to $10</font>, <font color="red"> Villain raises to $17</font>

As I said, Villain has 2 bucks behind here. The pot when the 3bet comes back to me is $32 (since he's effectively all-in here) and I'm calling $9. Can I lay this down getting 3.5:1?

Mabye more importantly, is there a way that I should have played this hand to avoid winding up in this awkward spot?

I dont think you can lay this down getting those odds. I think you played it fine, you could lead the flop though.

Thanks for the reply.

If I lead the flop and get called, I can and should continue to value bet on a safe turn, and maybe fire a blocking bet out if the turn comes a spade depending on how many opponents I'm up against.

If I lead the flop and get raised, I'm in a bit of a tricky spot. I have 5 outs to improve and am OOP, so calling and folding if I don't improve generally sucks. 3-betting the flop isn't as bad at all, but I think that better hands call and worse hands fold to a 3-bet.

An idea that I'm kind of flirting with if raised on the flop is to call and then donkbet the turn. Anyone raising for a free card on the flop doesn't get what they want, and a lot of bad queens slow down when I lead the turn. If I get raised when I donk I'm pretty sure I can fold safely.

Any thoughts?
