I got this in an email.

"At the end of this message, you are asked a question.

Answer it immediately. Don't stop and think about it.

Just say the first thing that pops into your mind.

Now... just follow the instructions as quickly as possible.

Do not go to the next calculation before you have finished the previous one..

You do not ever need to write or remember the answers, just do it using your
mind.

You'll be surprised.

Start:

How much is:

15 + 6

3 + 56

89 + 2

12 + 53

75 + 26

25 + 52

63 + 32

123 + 5

QUICK! THINK ABOUT A COLOR AND A TOOL!

You just thought about a red hammer!, didn't you "

Orange hammer. I don't get it.

I like this one better: Pick a two digit number less than fifty, where both digits are odd, but different from each other.

Did you pick 37 ?

Apparently it means a stopped watch is right twice a day.

below black and white, red is the most "basic" color. that is to say, no language which has a word for any color besides red has no word for red. it is a prototypic color in that regard, which is i suppose why we first think of it when we asked to come up with a color and unprepared.

id assume something similiar for hammer.

Just for the record my wife said purple wrench, which made me kind of horny. I'm not sure why.

The color red is frequently referred to as representing "anger."

The hammer could signify power.

Possible translation/connection - "I'm pissed off that I wasted my time with this stupid piecea crap quiz/puzzle and I feel like bustin' my monitor! Or keyboard! Or the azzwipe that sent me this friggin' thing!"

Agree.

I suppose the pre-work is designed to stop you from thinking by the time you are asked the real question.

I've seen this before. Personally, I don't think the numbers matter and are just a trick to make it look incredible.

Red is the most obvious color to choose. I don't know why, it just seems like it is.

Also, the hammer is probably just the first tool we think of.

That's my theory, anyway.

someone polled random people asking to say a color and tool quickly. the most common reply was red and hammer. unfortunatly it wasnt common enough.

Take a large group of internet users. Prime them with simple math questions, then ask them for a color and tool. It is likely that one of each option will dominate the others slightly, as some tools and colors are simply more commonly associated with "tool" and "color" than others.

If there's one that is exceedingly dominant, use that as your predictor, and you'll wow a bunch of people. Simple.

Hm...we choose "red" as a color and "hammer" as a tool because they are the most common /images/graemlins/shocked.gif...this is a very novel theory, but have you considered the other theory: The computer can read your mind!!!! /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

if you get blue saw it means you didn't get the math problems right. If you had done the math correctly, you would have gotten red hammer. It's basic brain chemistry.

I've seen this done before. Usually a large proportion of the tested population ends up saying red hammer. It's interesting so many people on this forum had different ideas.

Wow. I said red and a hammer in my mind. Thats pretty freaky.

Edit add: I'm pretty drunk right now and was doing the math problems quickly yet frustratingly. Something in my head really hurt when it asked me to think of a color and a tool really quickly and as I thought "red and hammer" a huge wave of relief came over me as I thought them out. Again, I was semi-freaked.
