I get the feeling AK is a hand that's played quite different in NL as opposed to limit.

No read on villain.

Comments on all streets.

Preflop: I'd reraise, you're in position.
Flop: Either raise or fold. Calling is a waste.
Turn: You should have already folded, but if not, now is the ONLY time to win the pot once you've flat called.
River: Fold.

Lesson 1: AK is a good hand, but it's -EV if you misplay it. Just because you have a high card does not mean you have the best hand.

Lesson 2: Who cares if he's bluffing? Let someone else learn the lesson and take a note of it. There's no point losing $7 with a less than marginal hand to find out.

Lesson 3: You won his $7? Congrats! You'll lose it the next 8 out of 10 times you pull this. Get a read first, then use it. Otherwise, fold with nothing.

you should have raise preflop.

and don't call with no draw and no pair.

I agree, unless you have a plan. For instance, raising or betting the turn.

I think its crazy to fold 3 to 1 odds on the river. I see maybe 55-77, a continuation bet with AT-AK, rarely a set or straight, and sometimes flush/straight type hands. Call or raise. Raising will eliminate small pairs, I would estimate, 40% of the time.

Coldcalling on the bn is OK but you need to understand why. Your first choice should be to reraise pf.

Fold the flop. Sometimes raise. You have offsuit rags.

I would usually raise preflop. If I would call that flop I would do it to float, in which case I'm allways firing away on turn. I would fold the river.

Grunch, under what circumstances would you call this preflop and why? Because I would like to know the why part of it. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
