Villain is a calling station and called me with A5s on a 996 (no FD) board once after I raised preflop.

3bet preflop? Raise flop/turn? Bet river for value?

Can't see anything wrong with the way you played it.

Maybe reraise flop and lead turn if it's checked to you, so if he has overcards, he's paying to draw

Definitely 3 bet PF...$2.25. You have position and a great hand and knock out them blinds.

As played pot flop...You're far ahead and too many turn cards stink.

But if you haven't potted by the turn, that would be the next good time to do it.

You have an overpair. He is a calling station. These are the moments we wait for. Take advantage. The bastard has money that is rightfully yours. Take it.

Flop is fine.
I probably raise the turn for value.
You can value bet A high, 7x, 88/99 on the river.

I don't know, if he's really a passive calling station, he is showing some uncharacteristic aggression on all streets, which would give me a little pause. But you do have an overpair, and I think you need to define your hand at some point and raise the flop or turn. The standard limit line would be to wait for the turn since your equity can change a lot, but since this is NL and he does have a short stack, I think I'm more inclined to raise the flop about $3, and if he reraises or goes all-in, I fold it. If you wait for the turn here, he gets more of his stack in and the pot just balloons with a raise, which is probably what you're trying to avoid with just one pair. Thoughts?

Either raise the turn and/or value bet the river. As played, not value betting the river makes me cringe.

Wolfsie, you're getting soft against these shorties. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

3-bet preflop, shove flop. As played preflop, raise flop and push turn. As played on flop, shove turmn. As weak-tighted to the river, shove for value.

Arrr, you be right matey. That's why I posted this. I was thinking "pot control" when I should have been thinking "value" and felt I lost a ton of it in the end.

I think you need to repop this preflop to get it heads-up or just take it down.

Raise the flop. If he's a calling station, he'll call, which is what you want. You have to be miles ahead of this guy's range.

On that great board for our hand I'm probably raising flop, AI on the turn card -I expect to get called with SC type hand/Ax villans kicker hit/PP/str8 draw notnecessarily OESD
- if he calls the flop raise.
