Hmmm, I wonder if this is my limit background coming through. This is a checkraise in limit like 99% of the time. Is betting out on the flop the standard play in these situations in NL?

absolutely, squeeze the PFR to find out of he has a big hand or not (He's UTG, his range is narrow). Flop check raise is really bad, and I think your behind to trips here quite often.

Really weird play for button if he has anything but trips.

Aj is not a fantastic hand oop vs a raise, even suited, honestly I would dump it pf. When you hit the flop like you did, but you are oop and it is multiway, I like to check. You give UTG a chance to fire at the pot with what he still might think is the best hand and you see if there is significant action behind you. I like a call here, your hand is pretty good, but you have no idea where you stand, but a call closes the action and is still pretty cheap. Check turn and if either UTG or button fires big I´m looking to dump it.

Definitely folding to BTN's call - then min-raise.

And I would check the flop and see the action first. AJ OOP here where you don't hit two-pair is going to be tough to play.
