I'm going to make a trip down there this weekend. What days do you guys think would be best to play 4/8 and 6/12? I was thinking of going around 10 PM on Sat. and getting a room for Sunday outside the city. Thoughts?

w00t!!!

Reecelights and I are going down for Friday evening and all day Saturday. In my life (i.e. non-gambling experience) Sunday seems to be more of a travel day for people, so I would expect the action to be slowing down on Sunday - but Friday and Saturday should find the poker rooms full of fish that don't want to go shopping with their wives (oh wait, both of us fit that category...)

We are staying in an Absecon hotel Friday night. We will be spending most of our time at the Showboat - we are not big dollah Borgata ballahs.

SHIP IT.

i will be up in there like swimwear, staying and playing at the borgata hotel casino and spa - booked thurs thru sun but will probably be back and forth to philly a few times because of other stuff going on at night back home

matt, my only thoughts on your plan is depending which room you play at arriving at 10pm on a saturday on this holiday weekend might find it a bit crowded, but should be plenty good actionwise regardless where you go

Usually what I do is go down Friday night and get a room in Somer's Pt. for Sat. night which is exit 30 on the Parkway (they let me check in at 8 AM). I figured because it's a holiday weekend, rooms will be too much as I only play 4/8 (Trop) and 6/12 (Borgata). But I know that because it's a holiday weekend, there will be a lot of action. I just don't want to get there AFTER everyone is done playing. I'm leaning towards going Sat. night and just dealing with the waiting list.

The planning is easy, it's the winning that's hard!

Question about the Borgata on Friday after Thanksgiving... my brothers in law are visiting from out of town and I was thinking of driving us down to the Borg on Friday afternoon.

can I expect long waits, being it's a holiday weekend?
Also, will they have any $2-4 limit games going, for my not-that-into-poker brothers in law to play, or will the limits be higher given the holiday?

They'll have that limit, the list will simply be longer. At least 2, perhaps 3 or 4 will be going.

I'll be at my parents in Philly burbs Thursday, and planning on going to AC on Friday. I'll be heading back to Long Island on Saturday. I'm going to try 1/2 NL for the first time. If that doesn't work I'll play 4/8 or try 6/12.

I'm not sure how late I'd like to play. I'm getting old (35!) so not sure how late I can stay up. /images/graemlins/smile.gif Would I be able to get a room outside AC if I drive out without a reservation Friday at midnight +/- a few hours? And which towns have cheap rooms?

First time playing poker in AC so I'll be at the Borgata.

Just a heads up, Borgata doesn't spread 4/8, they have 2/4,3/6,6/12, and up. If you drive out of town on rt 30, there are a ton of motels. I don't know what last minute availability is like, but you'll probably be able to find one with a vacancy sign.

Motels off rt. 30 in Absecon tend to be ratty. When I can't get a room at one of the casinos I stay at the super 8 it's better than others at the same price, and the zommbies don't make it out that far. I would suggest bringing your own blankets/sheets/towels but thats just how I do it.. gl

We're staying at the Rodeway Inn in Absecon. A Double was $77 including taxes, and it merited a 2 star rating, higher than any other Route 30 motels. We stayed at a Holiday Inn in West AC a few months ago that was only a 1.5 and survived.

Fingers crossed.

Keep 'em crossed. And count your blessings.

Edit: Here's an article on a little West AC (Egg Harbor Twnsp. actually) happening.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — Once a place where vacationing families came to enjoy the simple life, West Atlantic City’s marshland is now officially the scene of a homicide investigation.
Four women were killed, likely during a three-week span, their bodies left in a row stretching 320 feet through a drainage ditch between the Black Horse Pike and the Atlantic City Expressway, close to the Atlantic City line. Kim Raffo, 35, who had been living in a rooming house in Atlantic City within the past week, was the only victim investigators had identified by Tuesday night.
Three of the four women were blondes, and all shared similar characteristics, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jeffrey S. Blitz said. They were left lying in water and on their stomachs with feet bare and faces pointing east.
“What we haven’t said is that this is the work of a single individual,” Blitz said Tuesday night. “It is too early in the investigation to make that determination. But clearly there are similarities.”
The crime scene, where investigators were still working Tuesday, sits behind a thick line of cattails and a notorious strip of motels more reminiscent of Route 66 than the Boardwalk. A half century ago, these motels drew families for crabbing in the inlets and swimming at the beaches. Since then, they have become a refuge for the fringes of Atlantic City society — some people only able to pay for housing day by day, others involved in drug dealing and prostitution, residents and civic leaders said.
Although civic leaders were quick to decry the motels, Blitz said no struggles connected with the deaths seem to have occurred in them. There have been no indications of sexual assault, trauma or that the victims were bound, he added. However, determining the exact cause of death has been complicated because the women were left in several inches of water.
Two autopsies performed Tuesday confirmed two homicides, both women having been asphyxiated.
Investigators have not named any suspects, but West Atlantic City civic leaders said the site should be a prime clue. They said the ditch where the bodies were found is likely an access road for a Municipal Utilities Authority sewage pipe.
“But, a very key thing: That isn’t a road any out-of-town person would know is back there,” said Jake Glassey, Egg Harbor Township’s deputy mayor who has lived in West Atlantic City for about 40 years. “It would have to be somebody that knows that area. It’s not an area a stranger would just wonder into to place bodies.”
Raffo was strangled with some unspecified type of bind, but the county medical examiner could not determine how the second woman was suffocated. The second woman could have been left in the water for as much as a week.
An autopsy on the third victim — also performed Tuesday evening — proved inconclusive as body decomposition made determining an exact cause of death difficult. Investigators believe her body was in the water for as long as two weeks.
The examiner scheduled the final autopsy for this morning. That victim had likely been left in the water the longest, possibly as many as three weeks, Blitz said at a news conference Tuesday.

Residents at the Golden Key Motel, behind which Raffo was found, described the atmosphere Tuesday as uncomfortable. Township police said they plan to “be particularly attentive” to the area.
“Now I do (look over my shoulder),” said Blue Hunter, a casino worker who has been at the motel for three months. “Walking out of here, you take everyone as a suspect.”

talley ho,

i'm hoping to be in AC this weekend (F-Su). i'll be wearing an Obama 08 button /images/graemlins/grin.gif. say hi if we end up at the same table... playing 2/5 or 5/10 NL at the trop and borgata. gl

Roadway inn is a hole... I had to stay there once, the rooms are small, dirty, and the beds are terrible, bring your own towels and sheets if you care about yourself. SPend the extra 50 bucks and stay in a casino on the strip or a nice place, you will thank yourself. If you need to be on a budget, go to the super8 heading west on rt30 in absecon (right after the wawa heading back from the strip) it will be cheaper if you challenge the first price they throw out at you, as they are testing you to see if you will pay full price. If they are not close to being full you can pay 10 bucks less if you can haggle a little and be ready to walk out. I used to do that, but I was a cheaper bastard then. On holidays this is tough as they know they will fillup anyway. I don't know if that many people are going to AC for the thanksgiving weekend. good luck

A general rule of thumb in AC: never stay at a hotel that isn't a national chain. IMO this is the best policy.

Anyone else going to be at the Borgata friday-sunday?

I'll be playing 2/5 or 1/2 at the borg, most likely wearing a soccer(football) jersey, say hello.
