Just a general question, why do you guys play NL versus say Limit Hold'em.

I began my online play in Aug/05, playing mostly limit cash games and NL SNGs. This continued until I got TAP by Sklansky/Miller and started trying NL cash games.

The change has been is unbelieveable. I played about 33K hands of 0.5/1 and was barely winning at a rate of 1BB/100. I've since played about the same number of hands of full ring and 6-max NL and I'm winning at about 3 times the rate I was winning at limit. I'm still not exactly sure why this is but I like it.

Do you feel that there is more money to be won at NL?

Do you think a good player has more of an advantage when playing poor players when the game is NL vs. Limit.

I do.

I started out playing limit and learned the basics of holdem by reading SSH and Matthew Hilger's book ITH. After 44k hands that form of holdem was not for me anymore. I tried NL for a short while and then tried SNG's for a longer stretch.

SNG's suck IMO but at least I gave it a try. I have more fun playing NL full ring than any other form of poker I have played. I also had a stretch of LO8 along the way.

I was looking for a form of poker that was a fit for me and NL is all I will play from here on out.

The main thing is to have fun no matter what form of poker you enjoy.

I still can't imagine playing limit holdem again. That form really sux imo. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

play both /images/graemlins/smile.gif

EDIT - NL is definitely where the money is at though, different skills for different games though. I think this is covered extensively in the FAQ

why play NL? simply because its more fun.

The better player obv. wins more because you can get more money in. does that even make sense?

because limit is the most stupid game ever

Limit=feeling controlled and being told how and what to do.
NL=Shove all the time(no restrictions).
Limits for suckers

I enjoy NL much more because you can really apply a lot of pressure to your opponents. Limit's a bit mechanical in that sense.

There is much more money to be won because you can manipulate others into more costly mistakes.

Similarly, good players have a bigger edge and can make calling stations really pay.

I agree.

Also when you flop a set at NL, the idiots with top pair 4 kicker (J4/Q4/K4 etc.) will lose every chip in their stack to you and that rarely happens at limit.

Because it gives me the opportunity to punish limpers!

For the girls.

I dabble with 7 card stud 8, and I am constantly getting chased down. I don't know how a true limit player keeps their sanity.

Without a doubt there is more money to be made in NL vs Limit. The skills are different as are the games, obviously.

Limit is all about value betting and pot odds.

NL is about a different kind of value betting and denying pot odds. It is more complex, and better betters stand to make more money off of mistakes.

Limit is like a fistfight, while NL is like a gun fight.

I play NL, and some limit, because there are more NL games spread now, more donkeys play NL aswell and I like to make a big of money now and again. Not saying I make alot playing NL50 and starting at NL100 but I'm making more than I ever did playing 3/6 LHE 6-max.

UTG just came to the table and posted UTG. You won't see play like this at limit. Final pot is over 400 BB's /images/graemlins/grin.gif

They have to give it all away quick or the earth will not be the same.
