Wow, what happen. In Januuary I went on my yearly brithday vacation up to the Oregon mountains. I was there for about 1.5 weeks. No internet available, nor did I want one. I bought a few new poker books to read and had a relaxing weeks with my kids in the snow.

Towards the end I was starting to look forward to playing again. As well as thinking that my time off would give me a fresh mind to focus. Especially since I increased my BR significantly right before I left.

EHHHHHHH! Wrong.

I have been getting slowplayed & outplayed like crazy! There have been some bad beats with people hitting 4 of a kind but mostly getting trampled by players making their flushes and playing them very well (or very bad, cant tell).

Now I am questioning every play and starting to feel that, "scared money" feeling coming on. Anyway, I am not sure if I should dig my heels in and keep playing or back off again for a while and go back to basics. I dont feel like my game has changed at all. I mean how could it change that much over a short period of time.

What do you guys think? Push ahead hard and attribute it to variance? Does this happen to anyone else after they take a break?

Any and all input is appreciated.

Best regards,

I don't think that your play deteriorated much during that 1 1/2 weeks, especially if you brought a few books to read.

I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence and that you should not make a major overhaul due to a possible bad run.

I bought and took:
1.) Sklansky's "Tournament poker 4 advanced players"
2.) Erick Lingren's WPT book <--(Ericks book is a bit too aggressive for the type of games I play, SNG's. Interested in reading it for the MTT value)

I also took to re-read and skim through:
3.)TOP
4.)Super System

How long were you playing poker before this? Have you read any books before?

A lot of times, this happens to players who read a book and try to follow it exactly, without adjusting to game conditions.

Playing poker for 10+ years in casinos, playing online poker for about 2.5 years....been multi-tabling SnG's seriously for about 8 months. This is my first big swing and its freaked me out a bit.

Don't worry about it.

If you have PT, take a look at at least your biggest win and loss for the session (if you have time, try your biggest 3 wins and biggest 3 losses). Evaluate your play objectively for these hands.
