This has NOTHING to do with the new law. It had to do with a bunch of New Yorkers who were dumb enough to run a bookmaking shop over the internet.

This was a sports bookie bust, going back 2 years before the UIGE passed.

This is not UIGE, it is not even a federal case. The Internet hook is largely coincidental.

The story is very brief, but it seems to imply that these people were running a sportsbook from inside the United States. If my assumption is correct, these people would be prosecuted regardless of whether or not the UIGEA was signed into law.

According to the story, their web address was playwithal.com. Has anyone heard of them before? I haven't?

Anyone know how safe my bankroll on playwithal is? I was going to withdrawal tonight, but maybe I better wait a day or two for this to blow over.

Hate to say it, but I think your bankroll is toast. These guys were running an illegal bookmaking operation and I think at best any funds will be tied up until the court cases settle which will likely be several years.

Think of it this way...if the FBI busted a drug ring and the drug ring was holding some of their customer's money, it sure as hell wouldn't be returned to you. Their site is down and probably will never be operational again.

I initially thought the the subject of this thread was "FRIST arrests." I am disappointed.

Damn you. I misread the title as "Frist arrest" and got all excited.

Note the nice use of the Patriot act to get into his computer without him knowing. Does anyone feel safer from a terrorist threat with him behind bars or do you just feel pissed off like me that the government could have a copy of my hard drive somewhere and I would have no idea.

Where did you read about the Patriot Act being used to get into his computer?
