First, fold 3rd. There's no reason to play a hand like K-Q-3. The call on 6th is fine. You should probably fold the river unimproved, but it's .25/.50 so it's hard to tell if the opponent is just messing around.

Yea, I knew 3rd was a mistake. But I didn't give credit to a pair of aces and have a high card fetish thatI need to work on. Turns out the 4 on 6th completed a straight. I knew his raise meant strength, but is it acceptable to fold for one more bet with a good amount in the pot?

Well, reads are always important. At .25/.50, this is a harder task, because people are willing to splash around when they're playing for quarters. But just look at your opponents' line: he bet out on 4th and then raised you on 6th. I would usually take his raise on 6th to mean J's up, trips, or a straight.

There is enough money in the pot to call 6th and to pay off or win with Q's up, but you should fold this unimproved unless you know the opponent is capable of just splashing around. There's a decent amount in the pot, but it's not huge. Against any regular, predictable opponent, you can let this one go unimproved.

This is an example, in general, of why you want to keep your 3rd street play in order, especially when you're starting out. It's just easier to play good hands right and to know where you stand.

Sure, the odds are no different if you'd had Q-3-Q-K on 4th and he'd made his 4-straight, but you'd have raised on 3rd and defined your hand so that his raise on 6th indicated enough strength that a river fold UI would be easier.

3rd:Even with this high ante structure, tjis hand is not good enough for a call.

6th:I would lay it down for the raise. The straight is much more likely than any other hand.If he has something else, you still need to hit another pair to have a chance,& even then he might have trips.

7th:Fold.
