I think that is a blocking bet often, it is less than half the pot, so when you call, he is getting ~3.25:1 on the money he is putting in and gets FE from it as well. Any real raise on your part is going to put you all in, so I call to keep the pot small then reevaluate on the river.

If he is on some kind of draw then surely it is better to push here?

super weak, folding to a less than 1/2 pot bet on the turn. He is pricing himself in for some kind of draw. If you have any history with him this will tell you whether to push or call and re-evaluate river. Folding just is never right for that bet.

I probably call and see what happens on the river.

Are You crazy? His bet is only half the size of the pot and You are in position, so call and wait what happens on the river.

What range are we assigning to our villain?

I would say two overcards with a FD, 99 or JJ. JJ is probably scared of you having QQ-AA.

wtf to that range, he's a frekin 40/14.

I'll go with 86/89/8T/8Ks/A8o/A8s. Also 99, maybe JJ, big overpairs depends on whether that 14 has any preflop 3bets or not.

He could also have A7o, 97, 76. I think big hands really are outside shots, he'd probably play them differently, but maybe 87. I could maybe see him peeling the flop with 66, or having 88. Again probably unlikely, most donks realize that they need to get a raise in somewhere.

He may also have 56dd or 9Tdd. I think these two hands you should be most worried about.
