Say i have AKo and am heads up against a guy holding 44.
Pokerstove tells me i'm a 45% shot to win and the 44 guy is a 55% shot to win.

How do i put those %'s in odds format?
i.e the 44 is a 2:1 favorite over the AK kind of thing
thanks,

For ratios, it's 2 for each 1.

2 + 1 in 2:1 = 3, 100/3 = 33, so each unit is 33.

33 X 2 = 66, so 2:1 translates to 66/33.

For something like 1.5:1, 100/2.5, each unit's 40.

40 x 1.5 = 60. so a 1.5 fav is a 60/40 fav.

3:1 would be 75/25 using above method, if you see them talking about AK > AQ being a 3:1 fav...

So for 55% - 45%, you want to break it into 5's (find a common demoniator, so that's 11:9 or 1.2:1.

I'm sure there's a more formal method, but that's always worked well for me.

He's a 55:44 favourite.

The odds are 55:45 against you, or 55/45 to 1 =~ 1.22 to 1. You can also do 1/0.45 - 1 = 1.22-to-1.

This belongs in the probability forum.

Odds = win:lose

55% to win, 45% to lose = 55/45, or 11:9 or 1.22:1
6:5 seems pretty close at 1.2:1

If you are the underdog, you would be 11:9 'against', 9:11 sounds funny.

OMG dude, you have me totally confused. You can just make it 55:45, and then reduce the ratio if necesarry. It reduces to 11:9, or 1.2:1.

EDIT: oops.

Well, I was looking for a way to explain not only the 55/45, but every applicable ratio in poker.

Works well enough and fast enough in my own head. Getting it onto media apparently causes plane crashes.
