Villain is 62/8/1.19 over 176 hands. Most of those hands are from an earlier session, he hasn't played a significant hand this session so far. I've seen him get stacked with top pair a lot. Does he ever not have a jack here?

I hate short stacks /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Anyway, I'd probably just go into check/call mode from the turn onwards. His turn bet doesn't always mean a knave I don't think.

I would think you'd see a mid pocket pair here more than not and I wouldn't be surprised if he had a set of eights given the bad smell of the bet on the turn. It's just fishing for a call/raise.

So you'd put him on exactly 88 and fold? come on!

To answer your question, here's a hand from last night against someone with TIGHTER stats then your opponent:

(FR - $50 - Pokerstars) I raise PF with QQ. Villain calls. (I have $50 stack, villain has between $20-30)

Flop: 9 /images/graemlins/spade.gif J /images/graemlins/club.gif 9 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif
I bet pot. Villain calls.

Turn: 5 /images/graemlins/club.gif
(2 players)
Hero bets 2/3 pots, VILLAIN Pushes, Hero Calls

Villain - Pocket 3s.

My point- You simply can't give shortstacks that much credit. My assumption always begins- They're playing short, they're stupid.

When they're short stacked AND their VPIP is 62%... they're borderline retarded. You simply have to pay them if they have it. I have a note I use for these guys - "TSTFT - which means that they're "too stupid to fold to"... ie, if I have anything decent... I cannot fold because I know they're too dumb to ever give them credit for having much.

Its a very useful note.

I didn't say I would fold, I said how I read the hand - mid pocket pair and no surprise if it was 88 due to the nature of the turn bet.

For the price I'd probably raise all in here against most villains as most of the time we are ahead here and would win the hand. And if nothing else it'd mean I get action against anyone thinking I'm overvalueing my tens later in the session for a small price.

If we call here, we call a shove on a blank river, right?

my standard line for donks with shorts stacks in these hands is to lead the flop c/c turn and river assuming turn and river are blank. so yea i call a shove

This is an auto push for me. I just get it in. Am I crazy here as no one else seems to be on my line?

If you call you have a $21 pot, with villian having $7 behind???. I'm not getting away from this and just push. This guy's not a nit.

Villian could make this bet with missed overs, smaller pp, have picked up a flush draw, or whatever. He's sure you've missed the JJ with your turn check, so he doesn't need anything to try to steal.
