I have a question regarding 5-10 rule. It says that if a raise represents 5-10 percent of my stack I can call a raise with a small pocket pair or suited connector, otherwise not. It just seems a little too much. At pokerstars, blinds 1 cent 2 cent you can buy in for 5 dollars. I always buy in the maximum amount. I can't stand not having the maximum amount at the table. That means I can easily call 25 cent raise which equals 12.5 bb? That just seems too much. Besides, if I have AK for example and I wanna get heads up or limit the field can normal 4bb raise achieves its purpose if everyone would follow this rule (which they don't)? It is just odd. I hope I made it clear what I want to know.

GL at the tables!

it has nothing do do with how much you have, it has to do with % of effective stacks. If your opponent has 1 dollar behind, then you can call up to 10 cents.

Thanks! But I could swear that I have read somewhere that it depends on your stack. Probably a stupid question. Thanks!

Yes, I did read in Super system. Look for a chapter of suited connectors. Doyle says: Normally, I wouldn't want to get more than 5 percent of my money on suited connector. I assume that doesn't have anything to do with 5-10 rule even though at first I thought so.

Try this link, it talks about the 5/10 rule and suited connectors.

It's 5-10% of effective stacks, not your stack.

It's always effective stacks. If villain started the hand with $0.50 and raised to $0.20 then you are folding 90% of your hands.

Awareness of stack stack is a key fundamental that a lot of people overlook when they are starting out.

All right. I just got mixed up with Super system. Doyle says MY stack there. Have a look if you don't believe. Now I see these are two completely different ideas. Thanks for replies.
