provide a link to a thread in SMP to my philosophy class' forum? We have a few discussions up, and I really think this (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=4516129&an=0&page=1#Post 4516129) would be a great read subject there. Can I use the topic, tell them about the SMP forum at all, etc. I want to get a good grade here, and participation counts. I just don't want to violate something, perhaps I am being paranoi.

edit: I am not goin to simply paste the thread and leave it there, I want to ask the question, give my opinion, then ask others what they think. At the bottom will be the link.

You're giving SMP a link to your class, or you're giving your class a link to SMP? If it's the latter, I'm sure it's OK. If it's the former, it's most probably OK. If you're cutting and pasting text that isn't your own, then you'll have to get permission from the author. You could also rephrase the question in your own words, and cite your source w/ the link.
