Florida recently made all poker tournaments illegal in the state. Cash games are still legal. This just boosts SunCruize casino off shore business.

I find it interesting that the Florida political hypocrites push for the state lottery to supposedly pay for education but won't allow poker tourneys.

I find this strange. I would assume that there are more jurisdictions that permit tournaments and bar cash games, than the other way around. Do you have a link to the new law? I'd be interested in hearing the proponents' rationale.

To go into more detail, the state pari mutuel wagering commission was appointed to oversee poker wagering in the state. It was determined (after request by the various casinos on federal land) that the state has no jurisdiction to oversee poker jackpots like there are in tournament structures. It was determined in the month of December and all card rooms not located on federal land were ordered to discontinue all tournament poker including single and multi table tournaments. Tournaments in the state of Florida can now only be held on federal land within the state.

So basically...the Indian Casinos don't want competition from the Dog Track Casinos.

Are there any state legislators to be lobbied on this. It really sucks!
