Ever think of how many people me [censored]? Have we caused a divorce? probably... Hey I'm not for it getting banned, but we poker players have [censored] so many people out of money they shouldn't be gambling with... at least we know it is helping some people out

They are either going to gamble it away to you... Or to a casino playing craps or baccarat.
I would rather they give it to me.

but if there is one less way to blow their money... out of the million people who have that problem, that will help out someone. And that makes a difference

Sounds like you have a major guilt complex. Sure, we are helping all 87 people who will cause divorces and bankruptcy for themselves, but wouldn't it have been better to ban something like tobacco that causes thousands of deaths a year? (By the way, I smoke).

What you are suggesting is that the poker lifestyle is predatory, that it feeds on the poor, addicted, degenerate, and incapicated, and that a bill preventing it will at least help these people. And by that argument you imply that people who take YEARS to learn their expertise and skill are unrightfully using fishes to earn their living. If that is your view, you might as well condemn all of business in general.

Grow up, man. Poker doesn't cause divorces and bankruptcy. Idiots do. Frist wants to protect families while allowing online horse betting and lotteries. Coming from a guy that is being investigated for other issues, this is pretty silly. You wanna argue for banning all gambling and everything else that 'hurts' humanity, you should find a better forum.

You know what I'm tired of this PC [censored].

Your whole point is that I should look to the person standing next to me and think to myself "how can I make his life better" "How can I make the world better"

Guess what I don't care ANYTHING about the person next to me. I don't care about making the world a better place.
All I care about is me and my family.

Exa How am I going to pay the rent this month
How can I put gas in the Car
Food ???

You see these are real questions people have to ask in the REAL WORLD. I'm not a millionare I"m just like the other 90%of the world who's just trying to figure out how I"m going to make it until tommorow.

So please don't ask me to care about some guy who spent his money on something he should not have because HONESTLY with no bad feelings towards you...... I don't care I have my own problems and so do the MAJORITY of the non rich people in the world.

If porn were banned, marriages would end and literally, lives would end. Hell, I might even SSKM. No porn? What kinda life would that be?

But, Indy kinda has a point. Porn is much more likely to lead to family problems than gambling is. And kids get their eyes on porn much more/easier than gambling sites.

pretty soon just looking at something, smelling anything or hearing nothing will be banned too.its the senses bill which states you can only breathe, smell or hear at certain times or you can go to jail.don't be eyeing that sandwhich until after ten or you'll be subject to regulations or fines.and hell to the person who dares to listen to the wind blow.it could prove very costly.and you can only have incoming calls but not outgoing.outgoing calls will be banned and incoming calls will be to in 270 days unless you live on a indian reservation.oh and you can look at horses anytime you like because thats not covered.......

Also, while you are at it, stop driving your car. You could potentially kill someone that way.

Playing poker for the average person is entertainment, entertainment costs money, plain and simple.

dont play 10cent poker in your own home but its ok to put your entire net worth on a spin of a roulette wheel and lets continue to allow credit companies to extend credit until people bankrupt themselves several times overand lets continue to allow children to have all the unlimited access to porn, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, weapons they can get their hands on. bottom line make sure our government gets its cut and anything goes.

I trust that these people are old enough to make their own decisions. The only person responsible for losing (or winning) money gambling is the individual who did it. Not who they lost it to. Not who they won it from.

Poker is just like anything else in life. You make a choice. There is a consequence, good or bad. Sometimes you don't know exactly what that consequence will be, but it happens. There's even a saying for that. It's called, "You take what you want, and you pay for it."

Those people could have paid their bills. They could have gone to marriage counseling. They could have bought their spouse flowers, maybe taken their girlfriends out to dinner instead of chucking their money online. They could have hooked up with a spouse who didn't mind them gambling. Whatever.

They had a choice, and they chose to gamble.

If they weren't meeting their responsibilities because they were playing internet poker, I'm sure they will find some other way to avoid meeting those responsibilities. They've already demonstrated what their priorities aren't, and that's not my problem. Nor is it my business.

Why in the world should anyone feel responsible for what someone else does with their own money? Besides, that money was helping *me* out /images/graemlins/wink.gif

This is a horrible argument. Those people make a decision to sit down and gamble knowing full well they could lose, it's inherent in gambling. It's their responsibility to stop when they lose X amount, it's their responsibility not to sit at the table with rent money, not ours. You can't make yourself responsible for other peoples decisions or try to save them from every mistake.

You could make this argument about any form of entertainment. Should Blizzard stop making World of Warcraft because some people can't handle it and get so addicted that it harms their lives? Despite the fact that most of the player base loves the game and is entirely capable of not having that problem? It's much the same thing. After all, time is money.
