Other than the fact that politicians like to yell too, what does this have to do with legislation?

WHY IS THERE A LIST THAT WILL ALLOW US PLAYERS IN THE LEGISLATIONS SECTION?

Wrong forum but you are correct. They will let you play forever as long as you don't deposit. The site has tighted up though so it may not be as great as it sounds.

I love their "50 Stars for America" promo - launched even after the bill was passed and just in time for the bill to be signed. Talk about a clueless company.

Any update on this? They are gonna let us just keep playing?

In an e-mail they are sending to US players is states they are allowing americans to play for 1 week after the bill became law. It makes little sense as with many of the things Pacific does. I have a feeling they don't have the capability to block US IP's so you'll probably be able to play there much longer than the 1 week deadline.

Has anybody tried depositing through neteller at Pacific?

I IM the customer support on this. They had to go up to the 2nd level of support but they said No Depositing.....But you can play for as long as your money lasts. I asked again for clarity and yeah, the party's on!! They kind of loosely alluded to this loophole in one of their statements so I dumped a couple hundred there just in case and sure enough it looks like a go! Yeah, I'm sure they would if they could, probably can't block the accounts and all they have to do is show they tried to keep any trouble away from them.

I am in NY, NY and am registered from NY, NY with them and am currently sitting in a $30-60 cash game on Pacific

concur. I can play too. didn't get the email either.

I'm utterly confused if someone with money can't play there. Is that your case?

Hiatus,
Have you noticed the games tightening up any? I wondering how much of this site is/was soft from a) U.S. fish, or b) international casino-on-the-web crossover traffic. I guess we will find out...

HiatusOver

Cant say I have noticed a ton of difference yet, definitely a little less traffic I guess, I was away this weekend though so basically just basing it off today. Keep in touch about it

daedalus
10-16-2006, 08:19 PM
Yeah, traffic down about 25% as far as available tables. Games seem to get back to the loose Pacific style at night (I'm at 1/2 and 2/4 Limit multitabling). I think if it was going to turn rockish we might have seen it more by now, but it could be U.S. fish still draining their bankroll.

I can't play anymore and I'm from WA state. When I log in, I get a message that says they can't allow people from my country to join in ring games or tournaments. If you try to join a table, you get a message that says "Technical Difficulties". But I never got that before. It's because of their new rules.

I just tried five minutes ago, in case you're wondering.

It's my case. I was able to log in yesterday, however today I get a popup window saying, "We're sorry but due to new regulations, we cannot allow members from your country of residence to enter Ring Games or join tournaments. You are still able to cash out your funds at any time."

Customer service says:
"the following states are not permitted to have any business with online gaming:IL - Illinois, IN - Indiana, LA - Louisiana, MT - Montana, NV - Nevada, OR - Oregon, SD - South Dakota and WA - Washington. unfortunately if you live in one of these states we can only provide you the ability to cashout"

So apparently they do have the ability to block based on geographic location.

Fun with customer service....

Jelani1 has joined.

pozzedbyFrist: I'm completely confused. The day before the US legislation was signed, cust svc told me I could continue to play just not make additional deposits. Now I log in and I can't even sit at a table.

Jelani1: Welcome to Chat! We are glad to be of service. Please hold whilst I try to locate your Pacific Poker account with your given E-mail address.

Jelani1: You will be able to continue to play on your account and cashout you will just not be able to deposit.

Jelani1: can you tell me exactly what happens when you try and enter a game

pozzedbyFrist: Apparently I cannot play. When I log in, I get a popup window saying, "We're sorry but due to new regulations, we cannot allow members from your country of residence to enter Ring Games or join tournaments. You are still able to cash out your funds at any time."

Jelani1: Ok I'm sorry I see that you live in the state of Nevada and according to the law you are you permitted to play at all on your account

pozzedbyFrist: So it's people who live in certain states?

Jelani1: One moment please...

Jelani1: the following states are not permitted to have any business with online gaming:IL - Illinois, IN - Indiana, LA - Louisiana, MT - Montana, NV - Nevada, OR - Oregon, SD - South Dakota and WA - Washington. unfortunately if you live in one of these states we can only provide you the ability to cashout

pozzedbyFrist: Is America a screwed up country or what? I live in Las Vegas. A casino is right down the street. Gambling 24/7. Yet I can't play online.

Jelani1: One moment please...

Jelani1: One moment please...

Jelani1: Yes it is unfortunate the Us has passed this law but as a business we have to comply with the laws

pozzedbyFrist: Do you think American citizens should rise up and start a civil war?

pozzedbyFrist: So we can play poker again?

Jelani1: One moment please...

Jelani1: It was a pleasure assisting you.
If there’s anything else we can do for you, please contact us here on chat and we will be more than happy to assist you.

Jelani1 has left.

crap...you should have asked her who was going to win the world series before she cut you off. Or what the best laundry detergent is.

This sucks tho, but since the law didn't define "unlawful internet gambling" it's left to the state laws already on the books. Saw this one coming.

If Party had figured this out they wouldn't have lost $1 Billion in market capitalization. Apparently they didn't even bother to buy a law student a 6-pack to actually read the law before they made their decision.

anyone know if they blocked based on IP identifier or on your address listed with them (which I will happily try to lie about...)--I happen to be in one of the unfortunate states.

I'm in IL and have been able to continue playing. I was an idiot, though, and asked about it...now they have notified the terminations department. [censored].

Just read up on Ex Post Facto laws at wikipedia. Am not sure if this applies to the (up to) 270 day lag in enforcement here, as the law is already passed. If in fact there is no legal liability to providing poker to US customers in the interim, why would any profit-maximizing company choose to ban US players any earlier than the last possible second?

Agreed. I assumed this is what Pacific would do.

Because I haven't deposited with Neteller within the past 3 months, Pacific won't let me cash out the money I have in there.
