Hi,

in the book "Small Stakes Hold'em" by Miller, Sklansky & Malmuth it is often talked about "crushing the game" etc.

I would like to know how that translates into a win rate (preferably BB/100). What would be a win rate that can be accomplished by the concepts of this book?

Happy New Year to all of you!

3BB/100 is crushing the game for small stakes. (Well, if you consistently find a game that fits their 'loose' criteria, ie 5-8 people to the average flop you can probably beat it for 5-6BB/100.)

This is assuming multitabling online. Single table play probably lets you up this a little bit.

Yes. That's the conventional wisdom.

3BB/100 is the precise line between winning and crushing.

Thanks everybody for your replies!

You all seem to agree that 3BB/100 is a very good win rate and I believe you.

Yet, my guess would have been that a figure around 10 would be considered "crushing". Let me explain why:

When playing 8 hours a day, 200 days a year at a rate of 50 hands per hour that sums up to 80,000 hands per year. Assuming that "making well over $50,000 per year playing $3-$6 hold 'em is now no big deal" (page 2, chapter "Why this book" from SSHM) one would have to earn about $0.60 per hand ($50,000/80,000). That translates to $60 per 100 hands or 10BB/100 at $3-$6 limit hold 'em.

Hmmm. Am I missing something? Would Sklansky want me to play 3 or 4 tables simultaneously?

Please dont't get me wrong: I love this book. That's why I want to understand every word of it.

I am looking forward to your comments!

Yes, you would have to multitable to reach 50K.

10BB/100 is impossible.

$50k/year assumes multi-tabling online.
(we've discussed this a bunch before in different threads...this bit in the foreward catches a lot of people's attention).

$50k/yr = $1k/wk
$1k/wk = $25/hr X 40 hours

For $25/hr you can play 4 tables of 3/6 online and make just 1BB/hour (or about 1.6BB/100) for your $50k/year.

If you can 6-table or 8-table profitable (and some people around here can...but not everybody of course) then you can actually surpass $50k/yr even at just 3/6 (and possibly even 2/4 believe it or not)...or you could make your $50k in fewer than 40 hours per week.

$50k/yr at 3/6 B&M is not possible/realistic and is not what Sklansky was referring to.
